Dr. James Dobson: Donald Trump Has Accepted Christ
Charisma News ^ | 6/24/16 | Bob Eschliman

Donald Trump, according to a new report, has accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

No, you didn't accidentally click on The Onion. That's a factual statement, according to a well-respected evangelical faith leader.

Dr. James Dobson, who was among the more than 900 evangelical faith leaders who met with the Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting in New York City, says it happened fairly recently. He also said he knew who led the businessman to Christ.

"I don't know when it was, but it has not been long," Dobson told Godfactor's Michael Anthony in an exclusive interview. "I believe he really made a commitment, but he's a baby Christian. We all need to be praying for him, especially if there's a possibility of him being our next chief executive officer."

While I was a student at Bob Jones University, someone criticized the Chancellor, the son of the founder, Dr. Bob Jones Jr. for not using born-again Christians on the campus construction projects. Dr. Bob answered firmly that he would continue to use the best, most-skilled people whether they were Christian or not. He likened it to going to a surgeon for life-saving surgery. You don’t care if he’s a Christian; you care how many people have died under his knife.

Jimmie Carter should be a lesson, who, though an openly-testifying Christian, and one of the nicest human beings ever elected to office, proved to be an enemy empowering Iranian and Palestinian extremism against us!

I am always glad when someone comes to Jesus. Whether Trump was born again years ago or just recently he sure appeared more a Christian than the snake Cruz.

My guess is one of the evangelical leaders he met with told Trump why he needed to ask God for forgiveness and asked if he would like to do so and receive God’s forgiveness in Jesus Christ.

John 6:28-29 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

True: Abrahamic faith is what appropriates justification, being counted for righteousness, but Biblical faith is an obedient and repentant one. Thus (rather than reading texts in isolation) "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (John 10:27-28) But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. (Hebrews 6:8-9) Thus we have promises of salvation for those who believe, as well as for those who confess and obey, as such faith is that of Abraham.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)

For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. (Romans 2:13)

That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (Romans 8:4)

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. (Romans 8:13)

And thus we see eternal life formally being given in the light of such manifest holy faith, and also exhortations to continue in the faith and warnings - to believers as believers - against failing to do so, and with chastisement in attempting to bring the wayward back to faith less they be condemned with the rest of the world.

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: (Matthew 25:34-35)

Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. (Revelation 3:4-5)

But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. (Hebrews 3:6)

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. (Hebrews 3:12-13)

For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; (Hebrews 3:14)

Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. (Hebrews 10:38-39)

For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. (1 Corinthians 11:31-32)

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. (Galatians 5:1-2)

Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. (Galatians 5:4)

True saving faith is characterized by obedience to Christ, and repentance when convicted of not doing so. Thus David immediately repented prayed when indicted by his own conscience via Nathan's reproof. And thus, despite his great sin, he did not become reprobate, with sin having dominion over him as Heb. 6 warns, and against which "great transgression" David prayed, "Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression." (Psalms 19:13)

I’ve been thinking about what you wrote, and I think you may be correct.

People can go to church their whole lives and never really have the message of salvation clearly communicated to them. I’m thinking of what those “mainline” churches where they rarely, if ever, teach Jesus as the Son of God and what a person must do to become saved. How sad is that!

The church where DJT grew up was the church where Norman Vincent Peale was the pastor. He is all about being positive and how being positive can bring you a happy life. While that is a nice thought, it isn’t really the message of salvation that people need to hear.

Thank you for your post.

Dobson needs to mind his own business. IT IS A PERSONAL!

Trump because he certainly didn’t act or talk like a believer in the primaries...

“that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am first. IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN, YOU UNDERSTAND you are BENT toward Sinning! Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love;

If Trump doesn’t want to talk about this alleged conversion, then it never happened, for the faith that saves is one the confesses the Lord Jesus in word and deed overall.

Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 10:32)

Fools charge in where angels fear to tread.

Your arrogance is truly breathtaking. You really have no idea how repulsive you are, do you? Not a clue.

He thought he was doing God’s work when he was persecuting God’s people.

The Apostle Paul did no such thing.

The Pharisaic SAUL at the time of his pre-Road-To-Damascus encounter with Jesus Christ did persecute Christians, and was on his way to doing so.

Words mean things.

Context is everything.

Write with better deference to context.

While I have some issues with Dobson I don’t think think he is a man who lies. I also believe he is capable of giving a simple & clear presentation of the gospel.

For some people that’s all it takes. A simple & clear presentation of the gospel, and then everything clicks together.

I don't think he's lying, I just think it's not his to announce to the world - it's Trump's. For him to then go on to say that Trump should be given time and space to "mature" as a Christian is pure hypocrisy, since he was the one who announced it in the first place.

“Trump has been a Presbytarian all his life. He’s been a Christian all his life. That’s a CHRISTian. He accepted Christ years and years ago. He could have rejected Christianity and his religion at any point in his life and never did. I cry foul on what Dobson did here.”

I have always judged Trump to be a “cultural Christian” rather than a “born again believer”.

While the mainline denominations have always been good at ceremony, they have a less than stellar record when it comes to teaching the Bible. I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump had never actually heard a clear presentation of the gospel, despite having attended church in his youth.

Dobson, whatever his faults, does know the gospel and is capable of presenting it in simple and clear terms.

So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. - Romans 10:17

Your arrogance is truly breathtaking. You really have no idea how repulsive you are, do you? Not a clue.

Regardless of how repulsive Biblical truth (Matthew 10:32) is as regards Trump's alleged conversion, it remains that if Trump doesn’t want to talk about this alleged conversion, then it never happened. For Biblical faith is not inert, but effects confession of the Lord Jesus in word and in deed, and what He has done in one's life.

If you can show me a true believer in Scripture that never wanted to do so then you can make your case, but as you cannot, then i fear you really have no idea how repulsive your position is to the testimony of Scripture.

For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. (Acts 4:20)

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; (2 Corinthians 4:13)

Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: (Luke 12:8)

Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul. (Psalms 66:16)
