You can also use a pen name or pseudonym as well as a stage name. You just need to prove that the alias is really your name and you have used it in some form of business or in some form of artistic creation etc. It is not so hard. I've used Mad Dawgg since AOL 1.0 and written articles and conducted business on the internet and received royalty checks etc. as such and thus I was allowed to remain Mad Dawgg on FaceBook.

Same here. I’m known to my fans (all two dozen of them) as Hopalong Ginsberg, and that’s who my songs are registered to at ASCAP.
