(Sigh)
The next logical step then is that Robots should have civil and financial rights. Retirement, free electro-medical repair, preventive maintenance, and right to Union representation (after paying dues, of course).
What about working hours and working condition?
I hope they will get vacation time off and sick leave.
And robots that do the work of a hundred people will be taxed at 100x.
Good luck with this.
Time to go back to a barter economy.
If it moves, tax it.
If the automated processes machine is down for reprogramming or maintenance does it get unemployment benefits? If it is operating at a loss does it get tax credits or deductions? Does it get overtime? Job training grants?
They need to strictly define “robot”, or your toaster and can opener will be paying social security.
Just like liberals...over-regulate and tax businesses to death, then, institute a (another) tax on their production equipment.
I expect the dems will latch onto this idea, and we will see an iteration of this concept in the near future.
So do they get to vote too?
First, they came for the PressBot 3000s, but I said nothing ....
Next, they came for the BendoTron 2XPs, but I said nothing ...
This is a great idea, As soon as it passes, TURN OFF YOUR Robots, then File for WELFARE for each and every ROBOT you OWN that is not working. Close up Shop, start collecting your Benefits and RETIRE
Will Wendy's have to pay social security for each kiosk that displaces an order taker?
Will banks have to pay social security for each ATM that displaces a teller?
The possibilities are endless!

Instead of coming up with all these ludicrous justifications, why dont they just pass the we are going to take 40% of everything you make every year no matter what tax and be done with this nonsense.
In a contest between legislators and robots, bet on intelligence. Bet on the robots.
I’m a Robosexual.
DONT YOU JUDGE ME
So instead of illegal aliens doing the work, illegal robots will ...
And they’ll have legal fights over whether or not the automated ordering kiosk in the restaurant is automation enough to have to pay taxes.
Or they’ll go back to one outsourcing model I saw where the restaurant ordering was done by someone in India who talked to you via VOIP and typed up the info presented to the kitchen staff. Then they would avoid the automation tax AND paying local people under this scheme.
