I was just thinking of punting the Daily Mail from my morning news reading. They show a dislike of American conservatism in general and Trump in particular, making sure any photos of him are non-complimentary, as opposed to photos of ‘Canker’ Clinton, which are always filtered to attempt a cover-up of her wickedness, ala Dorian Gray’s portrait. (Note the use of ‘attempt’)
However, with their Brexit endorsement, I will give them another chance.
American conservatism Isn’t full understood ,here in the UK.
Mainly because there are so few true conservatives over here.
One mistake I think we Americans make is assuming conservatives in Britain are anything like conservatives here. They’re not. Just look at the villainous coverage he gets in The Telegraph. It makes the Guardian look right-wing.
They generally do not like our culture, our accents or our way of doing business. Not all, of course. But media elites in GB - left and right - disdain a self-made “nouveau riche” guy like Trump. We, on the other hand, see him as the result of hard work, ambition and gumption. A typical American figure.
I regularly read the British and European press because ours cannot be trusted. One thing that becomes obvious is a universal dislike of Trump that is fed by their press. Snide remarks against Trump is politically correct over there.
The Daily Mail, a rag “written by office boys for office boys”.
The Daily Mail, the Mail Online and the Sunday Mail all have different editorial teams and take different lines on many issues. In fact this week’s Mail on Sunday editorial was pro-Remain. The Murdoch-owned papers are also hedging their bets - Sun Leave, Times Remain.
