DAILY MAIL COMMENT: If you believe in Britain, vote Leave. Lies, greedy elites and a divided, dying Europe - why we could have a great future outside a broken EU

Throughout this long and often acrimonious referendum campaign, the most striking fact about the Remainers is that they have failed to articulate a single positive reason for staying in the EU.

Instead, they have subjected voters to a barrage of scaremongering, with the aid of a once proudly independent Civil Service, pinning all their hopes on persuading the British people that the dangers of withdrawing from Brussels outweigh the many drawbacks of belonging to it...

The EU is an edifice built on lies — starting with the blatant untruth, peddled when we signed up to the Common Market in 1973, that we were joining nothing more threatening than a tariff-free trading zone, which would involve no sacrifice of sovereignty.

More than 40 years on, some 50 or 60 per cent of our laws and 70 per cent of regulations are dictated to us by Brussels, whose power is only matched by its incompetence, corruption and hunger to impose ever more statist regulations on 28 utterly diverse member nations.

And though we do less than 10 per cent of our total business with the EU — with 80 per cent of our trade being within the UK — every firm in the country must submit to its throttling red tape...

Why do so many Britons not mind thinking themselves European?

Two world wars should have solidified the belief that they are not.

Whatever happened to “Fog in Channel, Continent Cut Off”?

One mistake I think we Americans make is assuming conservatives in Britain are anything like conservatives here. They’re not. Just look at the villainous coverage he gets in The Telegraph. It makes the Guardian look right-wing.

They generally do not like our culture, our accents or our way of doing business. Not all, of course. But media elites in GB - left and right - disdain a self-made “nouveau riche” guy like Trump. We, on the other hand, see him as the result of hard work, ambition and gumption. A typical American figure.

The worst socialists I have met have always been Scottish. Maybe it is the harsh accent but when they get wound up, they are impossible to either listen to or communicate with.

And I’ve dealt with Italian communists in Sicily!

I regularly read the British and European press because ours cannot be trusted. One thing that becomes obvious is a universal dislike of Trump that is fed by their press. Snide remarks against Trump is politically correct over there.

I watched the debates. Impressions, well the Scottish woman reminded me of Rosie O’Donnell, in look and demeanor. Saddiq Khan, I thought seemed more contemptuous of the women for LEAVE, than for Boris Johnson. Also, with Kahn, the word Taqqiya popped into my head a lot.

Britons would need to vote LEAVE overwhelmingly to overcome likely Voter fraud by the powers that be.

They’ll probably find a box of ballots left uncounted in an Indian reservation, er, immigrant center polling place in Britain and it will put them over the top to remain in the EU.

I'm amazed that the same country, with tenacity that is so legendary, would just now be waking up to this.

I am watching with crossed fingers that the UK is just the first among many who will decide to leave the EU.

The Daily Mail, the Mail Online and the Sunday Mail all have different editorial teams and take different lines on many issues. In fact this week’s Mail on Sunday editorial was pro-Remain. The Murdoch-owned papers are also hedging their bets - Sun Leave, Times Remain.

One of the most important tenants of Socialism is the elimination of the nation state. Truly, the reason why in the late 19th century the anarchists and the communists split was over the fact that the communist believed that in order to achieve this goal, you had to work within the nation state system, take it over, impose socialism and then export it to the rest of the world (by force if necessary) until there is no longer any need for nation states. The anarchist were just purer in their beliefs, that is all.

Today’s version of this strategy is the European Union. They are seeking to end the nation state, the true believers think that the nation state is an outmoded system whose time has come and gone away. Just like the Islamo Fascists, they want to impose their ideology on everyone and not have individualism anymore. In their world, there are no good Brits, or Frenchmen or Germans. There is only citizens of the world. In the Islamo Fascist utopia, everyone would be a citizen of the caliphate.

Of course some animals would be more equal than others as George Orwell might say....

We were making a documentary and we needed access with the Sicilian arts community. They were bizarre in their attitudes towards Americans and were proud Communists (while of course wearing Pucci & Gucci). Of course, like all commies, they ended up asking how they could move to the USA...
