Rush talked about how millennials are always whining about having to pay something. When HBO rolled out its GO streaming package, there were tons of millennials complaining about paying it monthly. These kids have absolutely no idea how the economy works. Netflix is popular for a reason, and it's one of the biggest users of broadband. So of course, it's going to raise its prices to meet the demand of consumers.
Amazon Prime is $99 per year.
It is not a one time charge.
I doubt this. Some will quit, some will actually join given the hubbub it will create “Better get in while the getting’s good”.
Netflix (which I don’t subscribe to and don’t own a TV set) is a fabulous deal, especially compared to cable.
I seriously doubt anyone will cancel.
Cancel cable and any rate hike will still be a fraction of what those rip-off companies charge.
Netflix isnt going to go broke just to satisfy some cheapskates.
I just download using UTorrent and skip all that mess. Anything I want and frankly those places don’t have a good selection of stuff anyway.
My netflix sub ended when I got a new chip card.
They haven’t added anything I want to see in close to a year, so not worth it.
Netflix offerings have suffered in recent years, but they they still have significant value, considering they do not implant commercials.
I got Amazon Prime on a one-day special at $70 for the first year. That averages about $6/month. Not a bad price for their offerings.
I have tried Crackle, Hulu and similar that have imbedded advertising. Nearly every time I tried to watch a movie or program, it would freeze about half-way through after a commercial break. When I tried to restart, it would run through a dozen commercials — and jam again. They were not really worth the frustration and hassle — even if they are free.
I’m willing to pay but what I really hate is having to go searching across several sites for good content. Currently I have only Netflix but I had both Amazon Prime and Hulu for a while. As far as I am concerned the consumer problem that MUST be solved is making a great deal more movie content available on one site/channel, at whatever cost. I simply don’t want to waste my time scouring through several sites trying to find a movie to watch.
.... and the movie selection at Netflix really sux, I am close to cancelling with them. Time, convenience, and maximum content are consumer issues that are not being well addressed at present.
XBMC(Kodi) , Exodus, Pear Tv, will get you just about everything, and it is FREE.

Our daughter got all of us an account a couple years ago. She foots the bill for it, but every time I look for something I want (which is rare, my tv time is about 1/2 hour a month) it’s not there. I’ve tried to tell her to save the money but she always says “Maybe you’ll find something...”
For all the discussion, no mention of the new rate and how this might be so onerous that have their subscribers would quit.
I love Netflix and think it is a very good deal at twice the price. I am not a heavy screen watcher and they have just what I need. I am thinking of re-uping my dvd by mail subscription too.

In other words, Netflix lied to its earlier subscribers. I hope they get a class action suit thrown at them.
Get an Android TV box on ebay for $30 with Kodi and the Kodi-addon Exodus.

No ridiculous taxes and fees = best part about going streaming.
You can also get a $20 paper thin 50 mile antenna for local HD / digital channels and get your sports/local news fix. Paired with a $30 DVR box is a sweet setup.
$5/month for PBS gets you a ton of content via Passport. The a la carte pricing for HBO Now, etc. is great — you aren’t locked into anything. So you can switch it off for the summer and resubscribe again in the fall to catch up on any shows you missed.
I’m actually overwhelmed by all the streaming content available between Amazon Prime, Netflix, HBO Now, Hulu, etc.
I imagine Netflix figures most of their customers are like me and won't notice or really care if they raise their price a couple of bucks.
It would be swell if Netflix and Amazon put up new movies at a better pace. Neither has had a new movie I feel compelled to watch in several months. I canceled both.
There’s always going to be some that drop with any rate hike. That’s life. I doubt it will be a lot though. $10 a month is simply nothing, even truly poor people can scrape that up.
