Florida has a gator problem as I’ve seen with my own kids’ near misses
Washington Post ^ | June 16, 2016 | Darlena Cunha

Florida has a gator problem. The animals live and walk among us, close to us. They live in our lakes and reservoirs and swamps, and we set up our businesses and parks around them, as if nothing will ever happen.

Growing up in central SC I used to swim in lakes.

I wouldn’t put my toe in the same lakes now.

Lagoons are man made lakes. They’re scum catchers. No reason for ANY croc to be in that lagoon.

[Cats not so much.]

We have a cat that looks just like that - NOTHING gets past him.

Unchecked gator growth is analogous to unchecked Muslim growth. The more one ignores it, the more innocent people will die.

Back about 1975 My wife and I and then two daughters lived in Gainesvile FL. We liked to hang around Lake Alice, a small, I believe, sinkhole derived lake that was full of gators. They were kept fed by all the students throwing them everything from sandwiches to dead animals and could be seen snoozing on the bank of the lake all around. We were all down there when the four year old got away from us and when I turned back around she was sitting on Albert, a 14 footer who had functioned as the mascot of UF for some years ever since he was a miniscule 10 feet long. I muttered a couple of profanities and walked deliberately over to her, smiling encouragingly to keep her from moving suddenly and picked her up and we left there. We didn’t visit Lake Alice again with the kids. Albert a year or so later choked to death on a medicine bottle someone had been dropped there or had been tossed to him.

That’s cause they don’t thin the population. Used to in the 1950s go gator hunting and thin those rascals out, not any more, it’s not politically correct.
Now we got gators everywhere I look, and they are hungry.
Went kayaking down an inter coastal creek and almost got eaten alive.
They are all over the golf coarse. They are one nasty group of reptiles.
They need thinned out. Sell their hides. Make food out of them. Grind them up and make oil. I don’t care, just get rid of some of the basturds.

We as a society have reversed a lot of what our ancestors did for us.
They thinned out the predators, be they animal or human. What did we do?? We listened to the “sunshine, lollipop, unicorn progressives,” and now we have predators preying on us — and we ask, “why??”

Live in Alaska deal with Moose and Grizzlies, live in FL deal with gators and poisonous snakes.

I know three lions in India that can be used to help this out the herd.

I was playing golf and saw a gator grab a duck right off the beach. Duck didn’t know what hit it. Needless to say, I took a drop and gave up strokes.

I also think that there should be signs warning of the possibility of alligators being present. It is not unreasonable, considering that the vast majority of people who would be staying at a Disney resort are not locals.

That could be a conundrum. What would PETA say. My vote would be gator abuse.

Perhaps some TSA goons could be switched into gator beating on the grounds that it would be a luggage abortion?

Yes precisely. Gator shoe, boots, vests, belts, gator tail sandwiches -——
I don’t give a she-it, just get rid of some of these terrors.

Yep - my grand kids were born here in South MS. and when they moved to upstate NY, they turned some heads by asking their Mom if they needed to be on the lookout for alligators while swimming. It's a known quantity and education is everything.

The same person complaining about Florida's "gator problem" would be outraged if they went on a spree to decimate the population....
