One thing that really annoys us about Windows 10 is Microsoft’s aggressive upgrade strategy.
Steve Jobs famously said “people don’t know what they want until you show it to them.” Microsoft must think this is true for Windows 10. And so its developers keep finding new ways to trick Windows 7 and 8 users into upgrading because surely they will like Windows 10 once the see it. Or they’ll just surrender.

Refusing is useless. You will be converted come what may.
I am now contracting for a medical device company.
If they upgrade the production computers, they basically have to re-qualify every machine to make sure it is still working properly.
So that shuts down production until it does.
So...literally... people can DIE because of this stupid policy.

Or just wait and see what some of the latest activities on the ‘doze front have brought about.
Unless you specifically need Windows to run a program, most people would be better off with a Chromebook or Chromebox.
More sophisticated users that don’t need to run a specific Windows program would be better off with Linux.
Microsoft Windows is not your friend
It wiped my email address and gave me a new one.
Now I only get my old mail on my Android phone.
Oh, yeah, I get mail from MS though on the PC.
I could be wrong, but the last time I inspected a machine at a VA facility they were still running XP. It’s been over a year, but I still have some fuzzy recollections about it. I know the CIC was running on the ‘doze platform at the time so yes some people will be in a great lot of danger if their machine(s) suddenly “upgrades”.
I do not know if their current software will run on win10, not that u-soft seems to be greatly concerned. Pandemonium is the most likely scenario it would appear!
My computer crashed while I tried go back to Windows 7 after Windows 10 downloaded itself. I finally had it restored and had #neverWindows10 installed.
Switch to some form of Linux....XP ate my lunch too many times....I now run Linux Mint 17.3
The first software I put on my new windows 7 laptop will be a windows 10 blocking program.
WinX obsoletes your legacy hardware.
It installed Windows 10 on my machine and I had to refuse the terms of the end user license agreement to get it to return to my previous version. Then it took about 45 minutes to uninstall all the crap they had done. My home page on my browser is still being automatically reset every day to Ask.com. Eventually I will find the script doing that and kill it.
Windows 10 is AWFUL!!!!! HORRIBLE!!! IHATE IT!!
Quite a few people only use their machines for emails, web browsing, watching online videos (usually of cats for some reason) or shopping with companies like Amazon.
For all intents and purposes, they could be running win2k or previous as long as they had a browser that could handle the online content and will never need the latest-and-greatest OS to be installed on their machines, not that they would notice or even if their machines could handle it.
I am currently working with one machine that has a 4Gig HDD and 256Meg memory that will never even fit the newer microsoft offerings, let alone be capable of running them.
Not going to happen no matter how much StevieJ wishes otherwise.
I concur and suggest running your favorite Doze apps in a VirtualBox. Makes it way easy to restore a Windows installation if it goes haywire.
It keeps trying to force itself on me and so far, I’ve been able to beat it back.
I discovered that browsers that handle modern content won’t run on Win2K. You need at least WinXP.
However, really ancient computers can still run the latest Linux, and all the current browsers.
I installed Ubuntu Server 14 on a 2002 computer with a Pentium 4 at 1.8 GHz and 1 gig on memory, and it runs fine. The desktops probably need something a little newer.
What the article says is absolutely correct: Trust has been violated. I’ve been a staunch Windows user since around 1990 before Windows 3.1. My first business was called “Windows of Opportunity”. I will likely ditch Windows after my current machine in a few years.
MS needs to be sued over this.
1) I have been running Windows 10 (technical preview) on an older machine for more than 2 years.
2) I have recently upgraded a newer machine via the free offer.
3) I generally like Windows 10. It’s fast and more secure than previous Windows versions.
That stated, it is not for everyone, and it can cause problems. A friend allowed the upgrade on his laptop about 3 weeks ago, quickly decided he didn’t like it, and try to revert to Windows 7. The rollback failed, rendering his laptop unbootable.
I fixed it for him, using the recovery partition on his hard drive. This set him back to factory image, which was pre-Service Pack 1, meaning that there were hundreds of security patches need to be installed, including SP-1.
Microsoft has changed the Windows Update components several times in the past couple of years, making obtaining these updates exceptionally slow and erratic — with update scans lasting for HOURS and DAYS and finding nothing available. It took me nearly 3 weeks and a lot of investigation to finally assemble an up-to-date system.
If you contemplate allowing the upgrade, make sure you have an image of your current system to fall back on in case of disaster.

There is a free, very short download, that will keep Windows out of your system.
If they forced a download and before you install the forced download... look up ...
GWX CONTROL PANEL and install it.
This will stop all Windows 10 activity.
I did and I’m happy.
