The average NBA player spends $42,500 per month, or $510,000 over the course of the year, and 11% of that money is dropped on clothing and shoes—the biggest overall category for spending. Whole Foods, Neiman Marcus, Louis Vuitton, Apple, and Mercedes are among the top retailers in terms of NBA player spending, but so are some more middle-of-the-road stores like Target and Walmart.

I’d say if they weren’t fleecing the taxpayers for their every stadium, every upgrade, every ....

All these seem to apply to the clubs, not individial players. If a person is in a position to get more, who'd refuse saying 'no, your money isn't truly yours'?

IOW, taxpayers aren’t truly paying for abortions @ PP; like players aren’t getting paid. /s

W/out the flush of welfare, does anyone expect the owners to be paying the big $$ to their employees? Let alone the stadiums, upgrades, upkeep, etc.?

I agree with you, the club owners would offer quite different contracts. But I don't see why the players should be blamed - they get what they've managed to negotiate. Negotiating is honest, why would one turn down a bigger offer?

Blame the government and/or councils on the welfare. Not even clubs.

All a player has to do is put their first year’s salary in the bank and let it sit. They can spend everything else, and they’ll still be just fine.
