Though it has scarcely been an issue since the end of the Cold War, America also has a rich tradition of ideological spying. These are people who have spied because not out of a cultural or ethnic affinity but because they believed in the policy or moral superiority of a political system other than the American one.

From the article:

“A Trump administration promises to take the United States off in such bizarre, morally offensive, and strategically dangerous directions that we could easily see a surge in divided loyalty espionage and the return of ideological spying.”

The was written by a NeverTrumper, I take it?

What a load of tripe. Most of the trends this jerk-off cites are independent of Trump's rise.

I think that Trump will be popular with the military--but decidedly unpopular with the elitists at State Dept. and the CIA.

I remember reading how some nasty left-wing witch who was a high-ranking State Dept. official actually told her subordinates in 2005 that she was going to represent the 49% of voters who voted for John Kerry.

I wonder how many people are leaking/ selling out because of Obama. Or does that possibility even occur to this ass-hat?

What we do know is that record numbers of people are renouncing their U.S. citizenship under Obama.

You don’t know anything about CIA rank and file. Please do NOT lump them in with Foggy Bottom.

The article is crap. Leftists are already trying to destroy America any way they can. Trump as president is not going to change that behavior.

First, if Trump becomes president, he will face record levels of opposition from inside the government and this may lead to more than the usual number of leaks.

Not if he purges the federal bureaucracy of bureaucrats hired by Obama and puts in his own--the way the Democrats always do. Republicans, notably Eisenhower and Nixon tended to retain a lot of holdovers from previous Democratic administrations.

Mark Stout, Ph.D. is the Director of the MA Program in Global Security Studies and the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Intelligence at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Arts and Sciences in Washington, DC. He has previously worked for thirteen years as an intelligence analyst with the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research and later with the CIA. He is a new world order policy wonk. A self proclaimed king of leftist reality. He draws conclusions based on biases deeper than the marianas trench.

x_plus_one :" He has previously worked for thirteen years as an intelligence analyst with the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research and later with the CIA.
He has also worked on the Army Staff in the Pentagon and at the Institute for Defense Analyses."

It means that he has the experience , but
not the ideology or integrity to reflect a new administration.
Enough said !

This writer will happily blame whatever the MB members Hussein has salted throughout the government and the Civil Service untouchable communists that staff much of the bureaucracy do. Well, they wouldn’t have done it if Trump were not in office, at least not so soon!

Au contraire, I personally know many CIA personnel. Most of them are S&T types. And they are good folk. And I think that the SAD types are great. But I remind you that Valerie Plame was CIA. The CIA analysis people recruit from the same places that the State Dept. does. And I can tell you that there are some leftists inside the Intelligence Community. I don’t know how they can continue to be so if they actually read the products, but they are there.

The CIA was originally very liberal, and old-time conservatives opposed it (McCarthy was going to investigate it but he was "condemned" before he got around to them). They claimed the purpose of the CIA was to oppose Communism by supporting the non-Communist Left around the world.
