I have a contractor who works on a property I manage. Super guy. He is in to the local Shriners organization in a big way. I forwarded a picture of him in a parade to the owner of the property. The owner's response was, "He's into all that stuff."
Am I missing something? Yes, I have heard about the Masons' connection to the Shriners but all they do to help sick, particularly burned children is pretty ok in my book.
Ibtz
They are into helping children though many hospitals they support: http://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/
It is a part of Masonry, thus if a person is against the Mason, he is probably against the Shriners.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shriners - Despite its theme, the Shrine is not connected to Arab culture or Islam. It is a men’s fraternity rather than a religion or religious group.
And the nazis built terrific roads and arrested thieves and burglars too. So what?
You don’t need to believe a bunch of Masonic bs to help burned children. But if you’re a Shriner you endorse Masonic principles.
My grandpa was a Shriner. He avidly supported the Shriner’s children’s hospitals and gave us Shriner-themed coloring books.
Yeah. The Shriners are FreeMasons. and Yes, your contractoris most likely Roman Catholic.
I do not think you can compare the Shriners or even the Masons to the Nazis.
It doesn’t sound like they took a stand either way.
I think it was the tone, which is difficult to impart on line. It was belittling.
Opps. The owner you both work for is most likely.......
He is a Shriner and a Free Mason; so? Should everyone pass some sort of litmus test before they are employed? I thought the quality of the work is what mattered?
It's all fun until they start driving tiny panzers down main street.
I am not a Mason, far from it.
I am not a Shriner, far from it.
I toured a Shriner’s Hospital bout 10 years ago and saw first hand the good work going on for damaged kids.
The Shriners Hospital system receives a generous donation from my business every year.
They fill a gap in the system that no one else does.
Sorry. The story I heard is the Nazis thought the Masons were part of the Jewish conspiracy. They were rooted out in many areas.
I am also not buying that my contractor is a Nazi sympathizer waiting to kill us all and rule the world, unless it is slowly by paint fumes.
That was my impression too; doing nice work for kids, not secret Nazis trying to take over the world. It sounds like a Pinky and the Brain episode.
One must be a Mason to be a Shriner but they are both basically fraternal organizations with no sinister plots involved. The Bible they use is the KJV.
My dad is a Mason and a Shriner. He asked if I wanted to join, but it requires a blood oath and my blood is spoken for.
The Shriners treated my two cousins for months at no charge. I found the staff and hospital to be fantastic. I have the utmost respect for Shriners.
Did your father ever mention anything about taking over the world? I am teasing, of course, but it seems to be what is being suggested here. I have friends from the Marine Corps who had offers similar to yours and they too declined.
I do enjoy how the Simpsons make the Masons appear, as well as the Republicans and Democrats, but that is satire.
