Postpone or move Olympics, doctors urge
wtae ^

The letter shows a growing gap within the medical field on what to do about the Games. On Thursday, Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said, "There is no public health reason to cancel or delay the Olympics."

The CDC's current recommendation is that pregnant women should not travel to areas where the virus is spreading and that men with the virus who have pregnant partners should use condoms when having sex for the duration of the pregnancy.

"We're working closely with the USOC and Brazilian health authorities, and will update our guidance if needed," Frieden said in a statement Friday in response to the new letter.

The WHO had no immediate reaction to Friday's letter. The International Olympic Committee has said it has no plans to cancel or postpone the Games.

There have been calls in recent months for a delay or postponement of the Olympics, but what makes Friday's letter different is the scope and number of physicians, professors and bioethicists who signed it -- from Japan to South Africa, Norway to the United States.

The officials said the Zika virus has "more serious medical consequences than previously known" and has worsened in the Rio area despite widespread mosquito treatment programs.

"It is unethical to run the risk," the letter said. "It is therefore imperative that WHO conduct a fresh, evidence-based assessment of Zika and the Games, and its recommendations for travelers."

The Zika virus has been shown to cause microcephaly, a rare birth defect in which babies develop abnormally small heads and other neurological problems.

The Olympics are set to begin in just over two months, running from August 5 to August 21. More than 500,000 people are expected to travel to Brazil from around the world.

Too late. The games are two months away and could not be moved in that time.

A year out you might have been able to break out the London facilities.

Teams won’t quit. They’ll joyfully carry the disease back home to the disgusting peasants they left behind.

Zika may not even be the worst concern. The waters themselves are badly polluted.

If I went, I’d insist on a disinfectant bath after the open water swimming events.

But the leftists want to make a fake crisis out of it

Well, I don't know about a "crisis", but it IS a problem, and it is bigger than I thought just a month ago.

It (the virus) looks to be more neurotropic that the other flaviviruses, and the speed that it spreads with the right vector is quite surprising.

Of course, the powers that be are desperate to avoid the public eye turning to vector control and/or border control, so there's a lot of thrashing about regarding "sexual transmission" and, of course, the Olympics.

But I do think we MAY have a largish problem soon in South Florida, along the Gulf Coast, and in Louisiana.

Time will tell. Unlike "global warming", though, this isn't a fraud.

yep, I seem to recall Oprah going along for the AF1 ride ... and crowds amassed in Chicago awaiting the announcement ... SURE that no one would possibly ever in a million years NOT give The Won what he wanted. That was a fun day!

Relocation might make sense, but it won’t do America any good, what with the illegal aliens swarming across the border at will.

The “payback” is now complete. After Chicago didn’t get the 2016 games (and the resident slumlord, currently housed in the White House, didn’t get her billions) because of their arrogance in not paying the required bribes and playing the Oprah, Obama, etc. race card publicly.

In addition to screwing the entire Southern US, the Zika outbreak was allowed to develop and spread to screw the Brazilians as payback for getting the games.

The faux doctor in charge of the CDC could have easily limited travel to and from Brazil and offered assistance in isolating and eliminating the spread of Zika. But the CDC and the US Gov’t piddled around for almost 2 years doing nothing and offering no help.

Additionally, the “socialist” gov’t of Brazil didn’t help as it wasted billions it didn’t have (remember Greece)!

Not only that, but it was also the first city to be eliminated out of the four finalists.

You would have to use a major university to get the venues and living quarters. However, class schedules being what they are, this is unlikely, even with adequate lead time.
