Twenty-three years later, the car still holds the record

I saw the Bugatti Veyron go faster than 250MPH on Top Gear, and others have beaten it.

The Hennessy briefly eclipsed the veyron until it was reincarnated as the chiron, but that is only because production had ceased to focus on the chiron

Yes, I thought the writer was wrong too. I just posted the title. But, none of the supercars from the mid 1990’s till now has entered the 24 Hours of Le Mans and won overall (not just in class) except the McLaren F1. I think that is why they command such a high price. Corvette regularly wins their class and it is impressive, but they fall far short of overall wins.

It might not have the top end of the Veyron but the Koenigsegg One:1 blows the Veyron away in any acceleration situation. Christian Keonigsegg has said that his goal with the One:1 is to have the quickest car in the world at any acceleration interval between 0-250 mph. When you have 1320 hp to the ground in a vehicle that weighs less than 3,000 pounds, fierce acceleration is a given. Engineering estimates put the top end in the mid-270's which seem realistic given how quickly it can get to 250.
