Milton Man Chases Coyote To Save Small Dog
CBS Local ^ | May 23, 2016 | Jim Smith

A Milton man chased down a coyote to help save his family’s dog from a potentially deadly attack.

Early Saturday morning, the small dog named Cally was outside in her backyard when a coyote attacked her and opened gaping wounds.

The coyote then ran away with Cally still in its mouth.

Ryan Labbe says his father then chased down the coyote and saved his pet’s life.

“It attacked her first in the abdomen,” Ryan said. “But she managed to get away somehow. Then it attacked her again and went right for her neck, picked her up and ran down the street with her. My dad chased it down.”

The coyote was tackled and dropped the wounded dog, which then ran home.

Cally’s family wants to warn other families to keep a close eye on their pets.

It is believed the coyote was a female with three pups.

Experts say coyotes raising young can be even more dangerous because they are protective, and looking for more food

Now THAT is decisive problem resolution!!! Thanks for the story. It’s always amazed me to see certain people I’ve known plead the plight of these carnivorous predators and argue for reintroduction near urban areas. I’ve read about the incident in California where the 3YO was attacked and slaughtered by coyotes while playing in a driveway. They tried to save the child but these was too much loss of blood and the coyote had broken the child’s neck - could not be saved. It just makes you want to slap people silly when they want to protect these things.

I carry a stout 5 foot long walking stick or cane any time I’m outside the house.

It was lucky the dogs were sniffing down around some bushes and didn’t see him. It probably would have been bloody for all of us.

Nature's situational awareness has been bred out of most of our dogs.

are also rabies carriers like coon, even farm animals can get rabies...one year rabies was bad in my area and they found a calf and a horse with rabies....dumb people should kill them like our ancestors did...that goes for wolves that come near human habitat
