‘Ghostbusters’ Steps Right Into the Hostility of Gender Politics
NY Times ^ | May 23, 2016 | Michael Capely and Brooks Barnes

Sony Pictures needs to keep male moviegoers interested in its “Ghostbusters” reboot after an Internet attack on its female cast. Hillary Clinton wants women to throw their support behind her presidential campaign.

In a strange confluence, those agendas risk colliding this week on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

There's a sick kid in this photo somewhere. Those #Ghostbusters really care about the children.

Be prepared for Hollyweird to remake popular films with gay/female themes.

Try watching Academy Award winner Susan Hayward in I Want To Live! then Academy Award winner Kim Basinger in LA Confidential.

Back to back.

If you love movies you'll just about cry, at how far Hollywood has fallen.

Agree. Pushing the ‘women are better’ theme to prop up Hillary! in an election year. I guess the series ‘Veep’ and Madam Secretary’ haven’t gained her enough support. BTW, I have a cousin who is a lesbian (trust me, she was born this way. Everybody who knew her from the early days knew there was nothing even remotely feminine about her) who only pushes ‘women’ articles and stories. WNBA, LPGA, etc. Hollywood is just cheerleading for the issue that Big Media pushes. Trump needs to hit Hillary! hard on her paying the women working on her campaign less than the men in her campaign.

Not looking forward to “The Printhteth Bride”, where the Dread Pirate Roberts runs off with Inigo Montoya. . .

Agree. I have no desire to see this. I cannot stand the 4 women who are starring in it. And frankly, I am offended that Hollywood thinks that women are such sheeple, subservient to the ‘women issue’, that they will automatically pay money to see a reboot......just because the main roles are now portrayed by women.

They should have never remade Ghostbusters. Period. What's next? Remaking MacGyver? Oh wait. They are doing that too.

If Bill Atherton was in the new Ghostbusters movie, I'd consider watching it. He's not. I'm skipping it.

When I heard they were going to redo Ghostbusters with an all-girl-crew, I thought they were joking. I should have known better.

One girl in the crew would easily have worked.

But if you’re going to have all women, they have to be some combination of attractive and funny/sympathetic. Mostly attractive.

I think I’ll pass on this one.

This movie was a travesty. Made to denigrate a great leader. If they had concentrated on her accomplishments instead of her twilight years with Alzheimers, it would have been much better. Even though Streep was the actress (supposedly the BEST ACTRESS EVER, who I personally do not like), it should have been so much better than it was.

So help me out here. These women from the movie come in and tell a child that they arent afraid of chemo treatments? That poor child looks miserable and these women will just smile, have their picture taken, then leave? I forget, how does that help?

why does Hollywood feel the need to remake and reboot movies and TV shows, which were fine in their original versions?

A couple of reasons ...

1) Hollywood long ago ran out of ideas. The movies they make are either self-indulgent agenda-pushing crap that feature queers, lesbos, gimmedat blacks, or tired old themes like righteous David battling corporate Goliath or strong woman crushed by patriarchy blah blah blah.

2) Hollywood is completely out of touch with its consumers. The movie industrial complex makes products it believes consumers SHOULD want, and that make for great conversation at Manhattan dinner parties and obscure film festivals, but for which the average viewer wouldn't walk across the street for a free screening.

Hollywood, the former "Dream Factory," has become a Garbage Factory. I would estimate that less than a tenth of its production is worthy of being screened. It is safe from competition only because of the huge startup costs and distribution machine. Overcome those and Hollywood will die on the vine.

With the internet and digital formats, distribution is almost there. But production costs are still prohibitive.

Hollywood and Professional athletics are just about the only fields these day where quality of work is directly related to their success.

They can put out crappy work, and people will avoid it in droves.

If the movie was well written and funny...it would succeed with goats in the starring role. If it sucks, nothing will help it.

I haven’t been to a movie theater since “Top Gun”, when I took my son.

I have DISH, but insofar as movies go, I tend to watch TCM, and The Western Channel.

I also don’t watch ANY sitcoms to movies on the networks.

Everything now tries to push “kickass” women, homosexuality, how blacks “founded” the country.

Every show seems to work in “global warming”, and the “religion of peace”.

It’s indoctrination at its worst.
