According to LSU, Mike VI has been diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma. He has a tumor in his face near his nose.
"Currently, Mike's attitude and demeanor are unchanged, and he does not appear to be in pain," LSU said.
His veterinary team, led by Dr. David Baker, has come up with a treatment plan that will hopefully extend his life for another one to two years. Without treatment, LSU said he would die in one to two months.

Better to give Mike the run of the field and one player from each team to amuse Mike for the pregame show!
The Tyger
BY WILLIAM BLAKE
Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp,
Dare its deadly terrors clasp!
When the stars threw down their spears
And water’d heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?
Tyger Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
Is he a smoker?
I actually read the article and the comments below it. Very interesting with some humorous discussions about medical mj. LSU has a vet school, so it’s natural that they would pull out all the stops for Mikey.
That’s too bad. Our house cat has lymphoma. She was given one-three months without treatment. If she went through treatment, she might live long enough to finish the treatment. We opted to just keep her as comfortable and happy as possible for the time she has left.
Maybe not, but the cage protects Mike from dumb humans.
Very convenient. Reportedly, he hates to go to the games, unlike his predecessor who couldn’t wait to get to the stadium.
My girlfriend and myself just went through this ourselves with her cat of 16 years Knittnmom. When we knew the end was close the vet gave us some meds for his comfort and he died peacefully with us. Cherish the time you have left, they really are members of our family.
I feel bad for the mascot. I think tigers are the most beautiful of God’s animals. Very dangerous, of course, and not pets. There is a reason the most feared tank of World War 2 was called the “Tiger.”
That’s our feeling, as well. And this cat is something special - she actually likes people. Makes it even harder to lose her, as she is a part of almost everything we do - gardening, playing music, watching tv - she participates in everything.
Much better!
Still he should get some time on the field!
See just how fast the players can run!
The listed 40 and 100 yds numbers are often bs!
Was it something in the water? The Red Tide at the beach?
By the way, centurion316 is correct. They pull the travel cage up to the habitat and open the doors, but it is up to Mike whether or not to get in and attend the game. They never force him into the cage.
The previous Mike loved the games, and hardly missed one.
This Mike has only attended around half. It is supposedly a prediction of victory if he decides to attend, and even more so if he roars at the game.
