Let me ask you then, if you had a dress code that was ignored for the whole year, not enforced, and no comments made would you fire that person for showing up out of the code a year later?

If your answer is yes, then you have never been a supervisor in the real world. Your ass would be sued faster than it would take to shave a little high school kid.

School is based on grades tallied throughout the year.

The graduation event has a dress code. I can see where people don’t see the line but this boy was not singled out.

This is a dress code for the stage. It’s adhere or don’t adhere.

He will get his diploma and he chose not to adhere. Done.

These threads are wild. I’ve been told to go to Hell because I believe in HS discipline.

Wow!

You’ve been told to go to hell because you are channeling the spirit of the Tories.

America was founded on giving the middle finger to arbitrary and unjust rules.

It’s none of the school’s damn business whether a student has a beard or not.

Arbitrary and Unjust Rules.

This is primary education we speak of.

What rules do you deem necessary and just?

Your statement applies to adults, not children.

Answer it while you are condemning me to Hell.

Wow. and to think I had to turn my Highway to Hell concert shirt inside out in High School. Those totalitarian thugs were jack-booting my face to the floor and English 401 was 6 steps away. My God the Humanity!

Why on earth would you care about humanity?

And as for English 401, it will forever be 6 steps away from you, thugs or no thugs. Learning only comes from respect, and respect comes from intelligence. Maybe your mocking laughter is why you got your face jack-booted into the floor in the first place. After all, few geniuses were ever found at an AC/DC concert. You should have listened to the Blues.

The school has a graduation dress code.

Either abide by it or don’t.

Go ahead and hang your glass slipper on this one.

You all going on and on about tyranny are absurd.

Do you really think that Founders or any of the other great Americans who lived in true freedom over some 150 years were mere anarchical libertines who thought they could just flout any rules any time?

They were well discilined largely, and understood the importance of rules and conforming, especially when it was the right of another to do so. It was only on very important principles that they rebelled, when it really was none of someone else’s business, literally or figuratively.

And somehow, with this general freedom and specific discipline, they lifted the country to prominence.

“I am glad he didn’t give in. He doesn’t deserve anything for that, but I like how he stood up.”

Yeah. I’m sure he’s going to have a long and varied job history. I feel sorry for his kid.

We are all in this together. It is a tough time in history but hopefully 2017 will bring back SOME sense of normalcy. I think the population is confused over boundaries and not sure what the future will be like. We have had the worst president in our history and it shows. Have a great weekend bud!

And what does a beard have to do with his ability to learn the subjects he needs to learn?

Apparently nothing. He has a 4.0 grade average. How many kids can say that today? I had a 4.0 average too at one time, but it was called a straight A average, they hadn’t started the number thing yet. Right up till high school, when I was really sick of school altogether, had a lot of personal problems, and was turning into a really rebellious little snot.

I was forced to cut my hair to go to school my senior year and didn’t like it a bit. I asked the same question, what does my hair have to do with my ability to learn? Nobody had a good answer, just “that’s the rules”.

So 40 years later, my niece had 3 kids in school, the local school board decided on a dress code of khaki pants and green shirts. The parents hated the idea, went to school board meetings and made it very clear, the school board did it anyway against the wishes of too many parents for the school board meetings to hold. Now all the kids look like little clones of each other. It all started with cut your hair.

Sure we have to have rules, kids need discipline, but stupid rules are still stupid rules. I’ve refused to accept jobs when the company had no legitimate safety reason to require me to shave off my beard. Hell no, you can’t tell me what I’m supposed to look like. This is not the military. Keep your job, my beard has no bearing on my ability to do my job.

I hate dress codes, kids are there to learn, not be little clones of what the school board wants. I do realize you have to have limits, can’t have girls running around in dresses that show everything, can’t have boys running around looking like total thugs, their junk hanging out, but those rules should also be realistic. There is no reason the kids should have to look like clones of every business executive in the known universe. They have individuality, they have their own tastes, dress codes like this destroy that individuality.

I suppose those of you who are putting this boy down because he refused to be a spineless sheep think he should have also been forced to wear khaki pants and a green polo shirt so he could look exactly like everyone else... Then what? Force them all dye their hair blue because you like blue hair? Maybe they should also walk...no, march...in formation in exactly 30 inch steps too. Maybe they should all be forced to use green pencils. Yellow rulers. Only brown notebooks will be allowed. They must have 127 pages. Oh and by the way tell your parents that blue car won’t work, everyone has to drive a brown one. Make it 4 door and no manual transmissions. Maybe you’ll tell them what brand it has to be too?

Sound extreme? Sure. But it all started with cut your hair. You got that, you wanted more. You got no dresses above the knee, you wanted more. You got khaki pants and green polo shirts, you wanted more. Where does it end? Where do you draw the line?

I could go on, I see it happening right now with our government. Ever wonder why you never see a politician in anything but a black suit, white shirt and the only thing different is the tie? You must conform. I have a thorough distrust of anyone in a suit. Where have suits gotten us? LBJ wore one...Nixon wore one...Clinton wore one...Obama wears one...unfortunately Trump does too. All have the regulation businessman haircut.

This boy was BORN with that hair. Are we telling God he doesn’t know what he’s doing?
