I agree. I think this rule makes sense to me.

Nope ... can’t wait to see how many jobs this unlawful, un-Constitutional executive decree is going to cost .....

Ask your employees who they are voting for, take actions accordingly.

Precisely the suggestion provided to my lifelong friend who runs a manufacturing facility that employees nearly 200 people.
If cuts need to be made, simply walk the parking lot and note vehicles with Gore/Kerry/Obama/Clinton/Sanders bumperstickers.

Thanks. I think we have bigger issues to worry about this year than opposing a rule that prevents low-income workers from being legally abused by their employers.

The optics on that are legitimately bad and very Scroogey.

Neither Bush *OR* Valerie’s man child have any business getting between the pay of an employer and an employee. None.

If an employer doesn’t pay the promised salary or holds someone against their will, the state can get involved if need be.

Simply put, PRICE and WAGE controls *do not work*. Thomas Sowell’s brilliant book “Basic Economics” explains this in laymen’s terms...and my theory is that Obama KNOWS all this, but just doesn’t care.

The people he SAYS he is trying to help are going to get hurt. They will be let go, or they will be hired at JUST ABOVE the threshold then worked harder than ever.

Little is even thought of the freedom of the small businessman, who wants to give someone experience and management training. Instead, this fellow is the “The Forgotten Man” Amity Shlaes wrote about—the small businessman who just won’t expand or hire someone. Why? The cost is too high.

Whatever the reasons Bush gave for doing something similar, I am CERTAIN they weren’t done in the face of these factors: shrinking GDP, record decline in work force participation, an increase of 80% in the national debt, and as a lame duck.

This was a political move, not an economic one.

For all these reasons, it ought to be opposed.

Exactly.

And besides that, it DESTROYS THE FREEDOM OF THE GUY WHO IS OFFERING THE JOBS!

Damn it, we do NOT NEED THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INVOLVED in this stuff! It is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS!

People don’t need a nanny state.

I already said that I oppose the minimum wage in its entirety. All it does is it eliminates whole classes of entry-level jobs like full service gas station attendants, street sweepers, and etc.

But if you’re going to have a minimum wage then this threshold needs to go with it to prevent people from being labeled as exempt just to evade paying them minimum wage.

$47,000 is not a low income worker. $22.50 an hour.

“$47,000 is not a low income worker. $22.50 an hour.”

That’s based on a 40 hour work week.

Fast food and motel managers typically work sixty hours a week and sometimes more.

That makes a $15 an hour wage. That’s where the threshold comes in.

47,000 is the threshold as I saw it reported.

But the number doesn’t matter.

You don’t like your job, quit. Period. Full stop. End of story.

I am sick of the guys who do the hiring getting blamed. Small businessmen, franchise owners are NOT bad guys. They’re good guys.

Do some study at what happened when Dick Nixon tried some similar crap in the 70s. Things got worse.

Everything in the economy under Obama (gun sales and private FRACKING exempted) has gotten worse. This is no exception.

no, no, don’t get me wrong.

and i truly do empathize with people who are either truly getting the shaft or THINK they’re getting the shaft.

the SOLUTION to such a problem, though, isn’t MORE federal regulation. the answer is to create an environment that encourages small business and competition.

more regulation strangles that.

i also am frustrated that the Republicans have given Obama a blank check on so much of this. emasculated, they pass omnibus bills and do not restrict what he does.

Article I Section 1 gives ALL legislative power in the Constitution to the Congress...not to the bureaucracy, not to to the executive, not to the judiciary.

I want the Congress to legislate and stop this nonsense.

“47,000 is the threshold as I saw it reported.”

I know. $47,000 is what you’d earn if you worked sixty hours a week at the $15 minimum wage. Anyone making LESS than that is getting paid less than the minimum wage on a straight-time and hourly basis. Thus that threshold.

But Congress DID legislate and they DID authorize the President to do this kind of thing.

That is the bigger problem is that they let the Executive legislate via delegated regulatory powers.

At least we can agree that such action is wrong. Let's leave it there. 😊

You honestly think employers are going to sit idle? Welcome to the rise of the machines. Lower the manager’s pay, hire two part timers to take up the slack and automate. Cut all employees by half.

47% depend on government, wait a few years and it will over 65%.

I don't want any pushback - being retired, I am racking up a lot of potential overtime as I am at it 24/7. I expect my retirement checks to quadruple......hopefully social security will follow suit.....

Who couldn't see this coming as he effectively shortened the work week hours with all his other crap. he seems determined to ruin as many businesses as he can.

“Lower the manager’s pay”

Actually, this rule would have at least somewhat the opposite effect.

The actual management staff would need to be paid more than $47,000 to be exempt from overtime but you’re right that some people who are called ‘managers’ may be demoted or lose their jobs if the reality is that they aren’t actually managers.
