So many aspects of it are now known to be factually untrue.
Haley got called out for it and had to admit his untruthfulness.

Funny you say that. The muslim world imported far, far more slaves than the Western Civilized world did, but there are no black people there today. Why? Because they only imported male slaves, and they castrated all of them.
Haley also wrote articles for Playboy Magazine. Strangely, like the book Roots, I never read those either, for one reason, or two!
The original wasn’t politically correct enough. For instance, from what I have seen in the previews the remake depicts Kunte Kinte’s descendants fighting heroically in the Union Army during the civil war, something that wasn’t in the original (nor in the Alex Haley novel). I won’t watch the remake.
I just read verne’s dick sand, fiction I know but a good read about slavers.
There were a lot of remakes in the very earliest days of cinema.
