That is bunch of bull
Apple uses the same OEMs as everyone else, Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi, Fujitsu/Toshiba, etc It is all the same stuff
And I could have recovered his data using any desktop Mac or windows, it is about the tools and how to use those tools. Not platform.
Have you ever recovered data from Apple computers? I have, plenty of times
Backup, backup, backup, I don’t care if you believe the Gay computer is infallible, back it up at all costs
Apple has no need to compete with that. Cheap laptops are wintel domain.... always have been.
The question is, what is “premium” really worth? A $2000 laptop is a serious amount of cash these days, but high end professional Wintel Machines with similar specs come in at similar price points to Macbook pros.
Mac has never played in the low end, its not their market.
I’d want to see a comparison of the professional laptop market not the overall market, before I would concede that Mac’s are doing worse than their competition. Their competition isn’t the plastic acer laptop on the shelf at WalMart or Best Buy. THeir competition are things like the top of the line Thinkpad Pro etc.
My MB Pro doesn’t have enough memory... It’s a major downgrade.
Windows 10 may not be the dog food that Windows 8 was, but its hardly on par with OSX in my experience.
There is a reason Mac’s when from the rarely seen at developer conferences to by far the dominant product used by developers. Most of it has to do not so much with the wintel hardware, but the underlying OS it ships with.
Windows is fine for the porn downloader/game player/web server/office memo writer.... For most developers, having a Unix based machine is a far better option.
And you're a liar and don't know what you're talking about. Look at WD hard drives, they are sold based on color labels designating quality. Black, Green, Red, etc. Windows machines use the cheapest parts, and the cheapest quality drives. Mac hard drives are held to a higher standard. It is not all the same stuff in the industry. You use higher quality drives in RAID arrays for critical purposes, versus mid-range in non-critical applications. Do your homework.
You may buy from the same OEM, but you aren’t buying the same product lines. OEM’s make different lines of products, if you have a $500 wintel machine, your HD may be made by the same manufacturer, but its not going to be the same model or line of product you find in a $2000 wintel or OSX machine.
Just like Ford makes the Fiesta and the Mustang Boss 302... both are Ford’s, built by the same manufacturer, but they are not remotely the same product.

The real problem is tech advances in general are not going to keep supporting the high end premium price points for high end wintel or MAC’s IMHO. The top of the market is going to drop, particularly in an overall shrinking segment.
With PC’s now becoming most folks secondary computer, behind mobile phones/tablets etc... Few folks will own PC’s in general... the market shrinks to hard core gamers, and developers and others who need more power and interfaces that those types of devices offer.
I think your high end price point will see a general drop, even with newest tech... until some major game changing tech comes along... which it always does, but I don’t know what it will be next.
Before tablets my family had 4 or 5 MacBooks/Macbook Pros. Now we all have iPad tablets which perform the same functions. Still have a couple Mac Pro desktops for real work.
Final Cut does render video pound-for-pound faster than a win 7-10 solution of equal power. Aside from that, the Mac Pro desktop is a few years behind and many $$ more than a PC equivalent, and the laptops, until you get into the many thousands of dollars range, are not faster/better/more reliable than $300.00 to 500.00 Windows based laptops.
I used to be a big-time Mac fanboy, since the Mac Plus days up to the G5’s running Pro Tools. These days, aside from iPhones, Apple is sucking wind.
Yep, keeping my money in my pocket until they discontinue their activity in the lives of social media, political views. JUST stick to selling computers and let the gender issues and states decide which bathroom works for whoever.
Look for a new MacBook in June
In addition, Apple introduced the completely redesigned MacBook the following quarter of 2015, the upgraded MacBook Pro and Air that quarter and it followed the intro of the iPhone 6 with its extraordinary halo effect. This article is wrong on several fronts.
I've had my MacBook Pro since 2011. The only thing that I've had to replace was the adapter, and that was just this year.

Good thing you clarified the second sentence with the third. iPads can't replace all the functions of the Macs, and vice versa. I have both. Same with vehicles, I have a truck, a sedan, and a couple sports cars - each is superior in some functions to the others.
After I went to 16gb kept a memory monitor running for a while. There were times doing various functions I was regularly going into the 10gb range. Firefox is a real memory hog but that isn’t the only one. What happens is it is using your HDD or SSD to page in chunks of memory and that is Slowwwww. Thats about -20000%++ speed hit. That’s why you get those dead pauses. After adding the new ram all those dead pauses went away completely.
Durability & longevity are key. Kids are still on same Macbooks, while I’ve tossed 2 Dells over same timeframe.
I don’t buy Mac for saving $$$.
I buy them because they are more secure than Windows machines and are more robust in construction.
BSD Unix is much more secure than Windows (name any version)
Oh and I worked for Intel for 25 years and probably helped design the microprocessor in your system.
Mac Pro is expensive because, one everything is custom.
Second it uses Multi Processor Xeon processors.
Soon to have Dual processor, 36 core.
Your home desktop is probably a max of 6 core but most likely 4 core.
That USB hubs are small and cheap? :)
