Video of Mother’s Day brawl at East Point restaurant surfaces online

What started as a peaceful Mother’s Day dinner at Kiku Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar on Camp Creek Parkway turned into a massive brawl between employees and customers.

Video of the fight surfaced online showing people throwing plates, trays and an ice bucket into the dining area.

Sailyn Barlow, 14, and her father captured the incident with their cellphones.

“I’m actually thinking it’s very good stuff,” Barlow told Channel 2 Action News. “I’m thinking, ‘Wow, I’m going to have a lot of views on this if I post it. Wow, I can’t believe this is actually happening. And wow, I hope I don’t get hit with something.”

According to a police report, Demonte Harrison, a busboy at the restaurant, was cleaning tables when a female customer berated him for smiling.

Harrison told the customer it was his job to smile and she couldn’t tell him not to smile.

It was then that a male customer got up and punched the Harrison, according to the report. The victim was attacked by three other males in the group.

Employees attempted to help the busboy fight off the men.

No one was seriously injured in the fight, which East Point police said started after an employee smiled at a difficult customer, according to Channel 2. They are looking for four men and one woman in connection with the incident, the television station reported.

Restaurant owner Charlie Son said his employees were just sticking up for the worker who took the first punch.

“He’s very upset, very excited,” Son told Channel 2. “He cannot speak. I told him to please go home, just calm down and take a rest.”

Son estimated he lost about $5,000 in business after people got up and left during the brawl. The people who started the fight did not pay for their meal, he told Channel 2.

my pals wife worked at red lobster for a while - she claimed the same thing..

I worked food service in my own bbq catering for a while - I never had a problem...except this one white lady who complained....When you smoke young chicken, the joints stay red...even though its falling apart...she tried to make a scene...so I made a bigger on e and described the effect of carbon monoxide on young chicken...I stopped the whole party and explained the situation....the busy body slinked down in her seat and was terribly embarrassed... but wtf - Im not gonna let someone who doesn't know what they are talking about screw around with my reputation

Just your typical quiet, respectful, Amish Mother’s Day Brunch with friends and family gathered round, straight out of Norman Rockwell.

Nothing to see here.....

” ... they complain about the way it was cooked, tastes or wasn’t what they wanted. Their breakfast gets removed from their bill.”

I’ve observed this with increasing frequency at several restaurants we enjoy. It’s just another dimension of the entitlement mentality.

Usually around here, these types of fights involve shootings and stabbings. Birthday parties around 2am are particularly known here for ending this way. But not for every sub set of society, only one.

Did perps create a disturbance to bolt on the bill?

I would not be surprised.

A gal I knew in in college worked at a White Castle in the Blue Island area outside Chicago. customers would routinely come back in an d insist they were shortes on their sliders. The employees knew better but just gave them what they wanted anyway.

These people were clearly triggered by white privilege. If only they had a safe space to validate their pain.

They usually go to Red Lobster.

Whatever happened to Low Country Calm and Southern Hospitality? The ferals really manage to “jungle-ize” society. Note to self: avoid ferals in any setting.
