Why has FR turned on Cruz?
vanity | today | me

Posted on 05/02/2016 2:30:43 PM PDT by bassmaner

I'll keep this vanity short ... Mods: please feel free to pull it if it's inappropriate.

Why have so many here on FR turned on Ted Cruz in such a vicious way?

We cheered when we first heard about Ted taking on the establishment in TX to win the primary in the race to fill Kay Bailey Hutchison's vacated Senate seat, in a bad year for the GOP

We cheered again when Ted exhorted us to 'Stand With Rand' when he offered public support for Rand Paul's filibuster over the NDAA

Once more, we cheered when he stood on the Senate floor and urged his colleagues to join him and use the power of the purse to kill Obamacare

We nodded our collective heads in approval when he openly and correctly called Mitch McConnell a liar

And we jumped for joy when he became the first GOPer to announce a presidential run!

So ... what happened? Yes, Trump announced. But at first, not too many people took him seriously. For the longest time, there seemed to be an unspoken pact between Trump and Cruz, where they occasionally said nice things about each other while bashing the other candidates.

But ever since the voting began and Trump turned on Cruz (starting with the Ben Carson imbroglio in Iowa), a large contingent of FReepers did the same and seem to be echoing RINOs like John Boehner and Peter King in their absolute abhorrence of Cruz.

Yes, we need to choose sides, but for God's sake, can't we send that kind of vitriol in the direction that it belongs, ie. Hildabeast and the 'Rat Party, and knock off the circular firing squad?

I originally supported both Cruz and Trump....

The more I learned and observed about Cruz I saw he was unfit to serve as POTUS.....

The more I learned and observed about Trump earned my support.....

I would always support the Republican candidate unless I believed that the GOPe stole the election....

In that case, I would sit out the vote to destroy the existing GOPe....

Cruz won’t even say he will support the nominee.

He’s a creep. Pugsley Addams.

Those are my two reasons.

Those that support CRUZ overwhelmed (in my opinion) FreeRepublic with their constant praise of Cruz and attacks on all other candidate.

I am not sure I dislike Cruz as much as I dislike the tactic used by his supporters.

I have to laugh at those here who cite John Boehner, of all people!, as saying Cruz is the devil in the flesh, or whatever the exact quote was. The John Boehner we ALL wanted gone is now the paragon of conservatism because he’s anti-Cruz.

On this presidential bid, Cruz made unforced error after unforced error.

He hired Jeff Roe as his campaign manager.
He allowed his campaign to make the statement that Dr Carson had withdrawn
He never apologized for the Dr Carson misstatement
He said that Trump was responsible for the mob rioting in Chicago
He has gone around the bend
He gives victory speeches after losing badly
He makes up s#it
He announces a running made when his time has passed

He should not have entered the race in the first place. I didn’t believe Obama should have gotten into it after 2 years in the Senate, nor should Cruz have. Cruz didn’t have the full backing of the MSM as did Obama, nor did Obama have an opponent like Trump (whose name Cruz uses almost as much as Obama uses “I” and “me”). Both men were overly ambitious and egotistical, and inexperienced, to serve properly as POTUS. We had it confirmed after the first one, didn’t need to repeat that mistake.

Then there is the matter of being born outside of the USA, not to military or foreign service personnel. To me that’s ineligibility, before getting to the one or two parents as a US citizen question, tho obviously others disagree. The USA is very generous in allowing non-NBC persons to serve in every other office, elected or appointed, and excluding them only from POTUS.

After his disreputable performance as a candidate for the GOP nomination to be POTUS, I can’t think of one office Cruz should ever be elected or appointed to serve in in the US government. He is not the conservative he originally sold himself as, and has turned out to be far from it.

Cruz decided that leftist attacks on Trump supporters was ok.

And that the GOPe wasn’t so bad after all.

Many of his FR supporters helped do him in.

Not once has Trump said anything about the Cruz Supporters, Cruz yes he has, and has been proved to be correct...

On the other hand, Cruz has called Trump Supporters low information, cult, Trimesters, just as Rush has done, Cruz has been proved out to be just what the people in the Senate said he was, a liar, a cheat, and GWB even went so far as to say he was an ‘opportunist’ which he has proved to be...

We know what Trump is, he hasn't hidden anything, it's all been out there for years, and if Cruz can't remember about a Goldman Sachs loan, a Citibank loan, 5 women he bedded down, and a Jamaican friend, that I have some information on, then he deserves everything he gets...

Plus he has sealed his records, didn't ‘remember’ he was a Canadian Citizen even though he has a Canadian Birth Certificate, and he thinks we are this stupid? The only person he is fooling is himself, not the American Voter, and you don't have to be a Trump Supporter to see he has some pathological problems!!!

I should quit rising to this bait.

” And he’s just following the rules regarding the delegates, not ‘cheating’.”

That statement is not truthful if you look at the situation.

First it is the rules are the problem. An honest ethical man would not use unethical means and the addition of unbound delegates to skew an election is unethical. It will also not be possible in the general election. An honest man does not use dishonest means.

Also, there is more going on than “following the rules” when governors and ex-governors of states (Maine and Arizona)start to complain about the conduct of Cruz people in a caucus you can’t blame it on rules. Cruz people have published false delegate list (Pennsylvania), they have lied about other candidates dropping out of a race, and they did do that(Iowa). They have openly and deliberately suppressed support for Trump (Colorado, Wyoming). They have used unbound delegates to gain parity in delegates where they lost a state primary (Louisiana, New Hampshire.

Supporters of Senator Cruz also have consistently misrepresented Mr Trumps positions, cherry picked statement (from as far back as 46 years ago) often taken out of context to claim Trump is something he is not. When this is pointed out the Cruz supporters simply resort to ad homminem attacks. I’ve been called - all by Cruz supporters and despite going out of my way to be polite to them: A cultist, a low-info a Trumpanzee, Trumpist, Trum-ape a liberal, a fool and many other names.

I cannot remember how many time I have had to reply to same 10 to 15 objections to Trump that are near complete misrepresentations of his positions. I started a post to answer the questions but stopped when it ended up over 12 typed pages long and I was not finished with it. That was too long to post here and I’d come to the conclusion that Cruz supporters wouldn’t read it anyway.

You complain about the way Trump supporters act but we’ve never started a #NeverCruz and had it published nation wide.

From where I sit as an ex-Cruz supporter the Cruz supporters started the vitriol. It was the Cruz supporters viciousness that caused me to change m position. It galls me that you have the temerity to then try and sit on some faux moral high horse about how rude the Trump supporters are.

Many of these chaps here appreciate Mr. Trump's angry incoherence. It is reminiscent of the Obama movement of 2008 with a nastier edge. That now famous confrontation where that Trump cultist mouthed "Lyin' Ted" in response to something Ted Cruz pointed out to the fellow that what he believes Trump will do is contradicted by Trump himself in the "New York Times." Donald Trump is a liar, either to "The New York Times" or the fellow arguing with Ted Cruz. as Ben Shapiro points out in his catalogue of Trump lies.

I gave to the Cruz and the Carson campaign last summer. I was hoping one of them would be the nominee. I did not care which one.

Cruz was involved with the Iowa Carson innuendo.
Cruz blamed the Illinois riots on Trump.
Cruz said Trump was hiding mafia connections with tax returns.

Carson dropped out.
Cruz was saying things without fact or research.

I voted for Trump in Missouri.

That is my journey. I don’t want a republican or democrat to win. They all suck. I consider Trump as an independent that is not bought.

“the Trump Trolls that seem to have their way on FR”

What did you think of the dozen Cruz trolls who for months reduced EVERY thread on either candidate to childish insults and idiocy?
Cruz voters like me were appalled but the childish ones loved it.

They lasted for months here.

There have been stories that if/when Trump wins the nomination, the GOP wants to run a third party candidate...

That would be equivalent to putting a gun to their head and pulling the trigger...

That would be the end of a political party....

To me, he’s not a “natural born Citizen” any more than sodomites can supposedly “marry”, and that infanticide is claimed to be “legal”, by our disillustrious courts.

Trump supporters and Trump still get the nasty treatment that began last summer. Grow a thicker skin; you couldn't handle what WE have taken from your side.

It's over for Ted and has been for more than a month. JUST GET OVER IT, PLEASE!

And your posts have been nastier than what I wrote to you. Time for everyone to join the fight against the damned DEMS!
