She was a victim of Mormon theology.

As I recall, she was a victim of her mom's weird, guilty-liberal habit of bringing home stray homeless men to work for the family--one of whom returned at night and kidnapped the daughter.

It's possible that's a consequence of Mormon theology somehow, I don't know. But we sure had a bunch of bohemian-agnostic-arty women pursuing similar clueless attempts at charity back East in the 1960s, and they sure weren't Mormon. The results were not too dissimilar.

The guy who kidnapped her did so because he ‘had a testimony’ (mormon word for good feeling from God) that she was to be his ‘plural wife’ (which is required for godhood/salvation according to their own sacred writings). It was Mormon theology that was behind his beliefs and his action.

You are right. We followed this case closely because we had just moved back from Japan to the United States at the time and we had daughters nearly the same age.

The blame Mormon idiots had a field day because Mom was one of the few mush headed liberals who belonged to the faith. They are the exception and not the rule as any moron can see by looking up the dismal percentage of votes ObaMao actually got in any Mormon majority counties.

Hint: It is the lower than any other denomination including those who take cheap shots at them.

The conspiracy theory is that the homeless guy/kidnapper was allowed into the home so often he was given permission to use their computer. On the computer he found dad’s presumably-illegal pr0n; Dad said “Don’t extort me or call the police - here, you can have my daughter”.

And that seems to be conventional wisdom about the whole ordeal.

It certainly fits with other aspects of Mormon dogma; that is, using females as currency.
