A desperate mom was filmed as she dropped to her knees when a cruise ship left her and her husband behind while their three children were on board.

The incident, which occurred on April 21, was caught on camera by passengers on board the Norwegian Breakaway cruise ship in the Bahamas.

The 4,000-passenger ship was dockside preparing to depart for New York when the woman’s husband noticed she was missing.

He was driven away in a buggy to look for her, leaving their three children on board.

Minutes later, the ship’s horn blew as it sailed off. The couple tried racing back to the ship but it was too late.

Norwegian Cruise Lines told IE in a statement: “the children were never left alone. Their uncle was on board and he accompanied them back to New York.”

Got to get that last minute shopping in...

Last summer I was on a Crystal Cruise in the Mediterranean. At two different ports of call this happened - passengers who were late getting back and delayed the ship’s departure. Twice. And both times they were found, returning late with tons of shopping bags.

Some people just think rules don’t apply to them I guess.

Came very close to happening to me once. Made it by less than a minute. My own fault. I knew when I was supposed to be back and cut it too fine and then things didn’t go smoothly. Time and tide waits for no man.

My wife and I left the kids on an Alaskan glacier while we sailed away a couple of years ago. Damn cruise line returned them to us. ;)

It was explained to us once. Some people were late and the ship couldn't wait. It had to do with allotted dock time and port service schedules. There was built in time in the schedule, so the ship left port and the passengers were ferried to the ship. In another instance, it was a city-a-day European cruise. The passengers got on board at the next port.

It's no big deal. Of course a ship can't change its schedule for one or two tardy folks. FWIW, if it's a tour the cruise ship sponsored, they do wait.

“Time, tide, and formation wait for no man.”

Miss ship’s movement in the Navy and find yourself at Captain’s Mast...at minimum.

The one time I went on a cruise, the ship personnel made it very clear that the ship does not delay departure for anyone.

There was a close call when the ship pulled into a Mexican port. The ship was getting ready to go—almost all of the boarding stuff (carpets, ramps, ropes) had been stowed, with just one small carpet left for that last passenger. He finally arrived about a minute before scheduled departure. The boarding personnel rushed the man aboard, grabbed the last carpet, slammed the door, and the ship started moving away from the dock.

If you go on a cruise, take the departure time seriously! It’s not that hard to be back half an hour ahead, with time to check back in and meander back to your cabin and rest for a bit before the ship sails.

This was a Carnival cruise.

This is my guilty pleasure. Sitting on my balcony as the ship prepares to leave and watching the stragglers rush down the dock at the last minute. Most do make it.

True story as related by my now deceased mother

She was on a bus tour in Ireland with a bunch of other old bats. Tour bus made the first stop of the day with the driver saying what time they should get back. Naturally they were all back on time except for one woman who came in 1/2 an hour later. The woman was told by the driver to try and get back on time because they had a schedule to keep. Woman said sorry.

Next tour stop same thing - the same woman was again 1/2 hour late getting back. At this point the driver told her that she was making everyone miss out on opportunities because they were all sitting there waiting for her and if she were late again he'd simply leave her behind. She just laughed and got back on the bus.

Third stop same woman late again. The driver waited 5 miuntes and drove off.

The woman must have been a democrat.

Hahaha...when I was in the USN, there were always running men when they were getting ready to pull away the gangway...

I thought it was hilarious to see, but I will tell you, I made sure to never, EVER put myself in that position.

Missing movement?

Yahoo.com acts as if this is “real news”. As you can see from the posts here, it happens quite often — like every multi-stop cruise. Some people don’t get out much I guess.

The smart thing to do was to wait, and if she didn’t get back, the husband should have got back aboard and sailed with the kids, and she could get a ticket home.

As it was, there was an uncle aboard. A lot of hoopla over a woman who just couldn’t find it in herself to get back in time for whatever reason.

In the Navy, I recall the ship would blow a whistle twice, once when there was a short time before sailing (can’t rememberexactly, but I think this is what they did) and once more about five minutes before sailing.

And when the whistle would go on those carriers, you could hear it miles and miles away!

Yep. Always slept aboard the night before ship’s movement, at home port or deployed. Never stayed on the beach.

I'm with you. I have no use for people that cannot be where they are supposed to be, when they are supposed to be there. If you're not early, you're late. Find a different way home idiot!

The only difference between this story is that there was video, and the right “reporter” happened across it on Youtube or Facebook or wherever it was posted. Then, it became “news”.
