I watched my old FRiend the_doc get zotted for merely stating that he would not vote for Trump in the general election.

That "NeverTrump. That's a vote for Hillary. Jim admonished FR members not to adopt that position. I agree with Jim.

So, fair enough. The_doc chose poorly, and he provoked JimRob.

I'm sure he'll be back after he comes back to his senses.

Because refusing to vote for Trump, and thereby helping Hillary, is counterproductive, insane, whatever you'd like to call it. I call it dead wrong.

It would have been easy enough for him to keep that opinion to himself if he knew it would antagonize JimRob (and he did know that)...

Vote Trump

IMHO, he might be a loose cannon.

At least you are honest enough with yourself to know that you don't really know who he is either.

With Reagan we had a long track record of his political positions. From the time he supported Eisenhower until he spoke for Goldwater at the 1960 Convention to his conservative governing of California to his campaign against the GOPe candidate Ford, he was solid. We knew in 1980 who we were voting for. He was an unwavering conservative. Trump... not so much.

Unfortunately we didn't have anything close to a Ronald Reagan running in this election and in the end we will not be getting anything close to a Ronald Reagan. To me Trump is a chameleon and he could be good for the country or he could be a disaster.

Of course with Hillary there is no doubt where she stands. She is completely on the opposite side of Reagan on all issues. She will be a disaster and you can take that to the bank. In fact, if she is elected, you need to short sell every stock you own.

When one of the first things she brought up tonight was guns, I knew she had to be defeated and I needed to do my part.

I voted for Cruz in the Arizona primary. I’ll be voting for Trump in November. **** Clinton! IMHO, she appears to have a medical problem. I think the ‘RATS are covering it up. I watched her going off on a TV bobblehead this morning. When the host said she is not getting as many votes as she thinks she’s getting, Clinton went cross-eyed again.

I agree with you. On the bathroom issue Trump is 100% wrong. But Hillary is 100% wrong on everything.

So despite the fact that I live in a state that is so solid blue as to be off the spectrum and my vote won’t count for anything, if I say that I am absolutely not going to vote for Trump in the general because..... (whatever reason) that I should be zotted?

I frankly admire people who stand on principle even when I believe they are wrong. The last time I violated my pro-life principles was when I voted for Arnold Schwarzenegger for Governor.

I have to answer to God for that mistake.

If Donald Trump wavers on his pro-life stand, or otherwise starts showing that he is not the conservative that we have been told he is, then no, I will not vote for him.

If that gets me zotted, then so be it. I expect the man that I vote for to be principled and solid. My vote (for all it is worth) is sacred. Donald Trump will have to earn my vote.

Do you really think that many Cruz supporters would sit out the 2016 election and throw it to Hillary, with all of her leftist and corrupt tendencies, because their feelings were hurt during the primaries?

You must think the Cruz supporters are very small people. I hope for the sake of the nation that you are wrong, and that they will put the country first.

Thanks! Nice post.

So there are two things I’ve learned this election cycle thst I am grateful for. One is to be careful with your own deep affiliations. My visual for that lesson is me, or any of us here, falling out of an airplane, clinging tightly to my red Conservative jersey, when I had the chance to grab a parachute instead.

One thing that Trump has certainly done is expose just why it is that the establishment has seemed able to hand pick candidates time after time that were not the choice of the voters. It is now clear that the convoluted systems for allocating delegates in some states (none crazier than Colorado, where I live) have provided the GOPe a poorly-understood playground for manipulating the outcome. I hope that once the smoke clears from this election cycle, we will begin to change these systems to favor more straight-forward primaries.

We just had this discussion at dinner. It just isn’t ok to say “well, these are the rules, whatever they may be. “

The People need to demand, DEMAND, fair elections and fair delegate accrual systems in each state. It is up to the states to do this, but they SHOULD or they deserve full shame.

You make some good points. I'm a loyal Trump man, but you're talking some sense.

I think that what it means to be a "conservative" and a "Republican" is going to change.

For example, I think the Bush era notion of armed American intervention around the globe is going to end. That's more than fine with me. I lost a lot in Iraq. Not as much as some, thank the Lord, but enough. And I don't see where it has been anything near the cost. When Bill Kristol and his neocon buddies put their asses on the line, that will be something to see. It is no longer "conservative" to just accept such nonsense as "fighting for your country."

Also, I don't think we're going to just accept trade deals the way conservatives have always signed on for. It is not conservative... I'd go so far as to call it immoral... to put American workers out of a job so we can have 8 year olds in Indonesia making our tennis shoes.

What the new Republican Party is going to look like... I don't know. But I'm interested.

However, I do know what the Democratic Party looks like, and I don't want any part of that.

Are you suggesting that if he only gets 1236 delegates on the first ballot that he would not be able to sway one of the delegates from one of the other candidates to put him over the top?

He will probably need to sway more than one, since a lot of delegates bound to him on the first ballot will not be bound to him on the second.

But I think Cruz was right back in early March when he said there wasn't going to be a contested convention. The possibility of Trump not winning on the first ballot has gotten increasingly theoretical, and I no longer think it realistic.

“then no, I will not vote for him.”

There is one thing that is not being discussed here. How would Ted Cruz change if he won the primary? Do you think he would stick with all his positions?

He would have to soften his stance on abortion to even have a 10% chance to win Florida; not just because of that, but because of his far right platform. Personally, I don’t think he could change enough at all to win FL.

He would have to change his rhetoric on abolishing 5 Departments and 25 agencies to win Virginia.

If he wouldn’t change, he wouldn’t win FL and VA and he would lose the election.

Mark Levin has not been zotted. His account is still active.

What is your point?

Has Levin posted that he's "NeverTrump"?

Take it up with Jim, I guess...

Trump looks to have acquired about 1000 delegates at this point. That's over 80% of the 1,237 needed to guarantee nomination, and as someone pointed out earlier, no GOP candidate since the formation of the party has failed to get the nomination, holding 80% or more.

This is what Newt Gingrich has been consistently saying for weeks. This whole "contested convention" idea is just a big show. It's "boob bait for bubbas", and for the Media it's just something they use to get ratings.

And it unfortunately makes Ted Cruz look very gullible, to think that he can go into the convention with less than 50% of a majority and somehow miraculously seize the nomination.

The GOPe would be absolutely suicidal to do that, and, whatever else they might be, they aren't suicidal.

And if the GOPe is suicidal, that's a perfect demonstration of exactly why GOP voters don't want those idiots to be involved in the nomination process in any way.

Ted Cruz was duped into aiding the "NeverTrump" effort, and in so doing I believe he sabotaged his own campaign...

Vote Trump

The biggest news tonight was PA. Trump sent a shot across the bow of Hillary’s boat. And he ripped apart any idea that Ted Cruz could win a general election. If a candidate can’t win a single county in the state of PA. ina republican primary, he has no business staying in the race.

It’s that simple !!
