More Than Half a Million Pledge to #BoycottTarget, but Some Suggest Alternative Forms of Activism

Last week, Target Corp. announced that it will continue to allow transgender customers and employees to use the bathrooms and fitting rooms of their preference, regardless of their biological sex. A statement released on Target’s corporate website Tuesday came amid a nationwide legal dispute over whether transgender people should receive special protection under the country’s civil rights provisions.

Since that announcement, more than 500,000 people have signed an online pledge to boycott Target. A description of the pledge, created by the American Family Association, states several concerns of religious and social conservatives who believe that providing such accommodations for transgender people raises both moral and safety concerns:

[[Remember when Ackmann tried to turn JCPenney into Abercrummy and Filth and we pushed it to the brink of bankruptcy until Ackmann lost 80% of his investment?]]

Yes I do i just posted about that lol- seconds ago-

I don’t remember the K-Mart one htough

[[Did anyone learn from those events?]]

I believe they did- businesses wouldn’t touch the gay support issue for decades afterwards- knowing how devastating it would be if they did-

[[Target has always catered to the anti-traditional family. It will be a lot more difficult to impact their sales.]]

True- but I believe millions will boycott- many publicly, many more silently-

The Tea Party needs to get involved in organizing opposition to stores like Target, the NBA, the NFL. Bruce Springstein etc- The Tea party has a massive potential to be a force to be reckoned with- especially in light of the current ‘anti-establishment’ sentiment going around the country- (It’s not actually ‘anti-establishment’ but rather ‘anti establishement-capitulators’ that has so many upset- they are sick of spineless repubs not standing up to the left- and always capitulating on issues like this stinking bathroom issue- This is where Sarah Palin coudl have been a tremendous force to be reckoned with-

People need leaders who can get the ball rolling- once it’s rolling, the peopel are much more l iekly to get behind the causes-

One thing not mentioned often.
Transgenders have a HIV/Aids rate 20 times worse than other gays. And non-transgender gays have a HIV rate 100 times were than straights.

Transgender lifestyle is extremely unhealthy and causes an extremely high healthcare cost... think medicaid. Somebody has to pay for the high healthcare cost.

We stopped shopping there months ago when they announced they’d be combining Boys and Girls sections into a gender neutral farce.

no me either- the problem is that when they jump the shark like that- they never can be rid of it because when they rescind their gay supporting policies, it is obvious that they do so only begrudgingly, and not sincerely- it’s like giving an ‘apology’ that say ‘IF what i said was taken the wrong way, then I apologize’ - it’s an apology that isn’t an apology- and hte only reason it’s even given is because they were affected financially- had it not affected the financially, or politically or whatever- you just know they would never apologize- and you just know places like JCPenney would never have rescinded their policy-

Bottom line- once they cross the line- I won’t support them anymore- because the only reason they cross back over is not because they are sorry, but because it affects them financially

You are so right. Look at Jack Dorsey and Twitter.

I read a trollish diatribe on another site yesterday asserting that corporations only operate out of a pure profit motive, and are thus politically neutral - and labeling as stupid anyone who ascribed a leftist motivation to a corporation.

How does one address such arrogant ignorance? Setting aside that corporations are legally persons (hence, corporation, meaning embodied), and that persons are complex and flawed, the examples refuting that ostensible troll are abundant:

Twitter? Facebook? Mozilla? Solyndra? Google? Microsoft? Apple? The entire Hollywood industry? Everywhere one looks, corporations are siding with the radical leftist vision of a minority against either a much greater minority or an emphatic majority, and, significantly, often damaging their so-called bottom line in the process.

Hollywood alone proves this: Wholesome, Christian movies are consistently monetary winners, while decadent, avant garde films are usually monetary losers - yet they balk at making the former, and eagerly make the latter.
Leftists have denounced God, and have made a god in their own image: Leftism is a de facto religion, and its true believers will follow it to their and our mutual destruction - no matter how much they may also love profit.

I understand your reticence (below) to sign the petition, but I plan to do so.

Like a whole lot of people, business execs read and watch the mainstream media and mindlessly believe the propaganda: Obama is the most popular President ever! Everyone thinks so! It’s only fair that people use the restroom they identify with! The whole country wants that! Hillary is loved and inevitable! America idolizes her!

Sometimes, however, reality has a tendency to intrude on the mainstream media spin and the poor fools just can’t figure out what the hell happened.

yeah a lot of these companies that were once conservative turned liberal- J.c Penney I believe started off ultra conservative- The owner was a Christian I believe-

I don’t forsee places like hobby lobby turning anytime soon though- But i think what might happen is the original owners retire, kids take over, then their kids, or some relatives- and perhaps some of them are liberal, and take the companies in directions the original owners never intended

This is how to deal with this issue, make the company pay who supports this action.

No, they won't.

But if Target goes under, so be it.

Changing one’s mind at the cash register would be considered harassment? I don’t follow.

You are causing extra work for the staff.

Just take your business elsewhere, they will feel it.

Brilliant remark.

Camille Paglia, herself a lesbian but sensitive to religion, has acknowledged that when homosexual behavior and cross-dressing have become overtly accepted in certain cultures, it usually signals the beginning of the end of that culture.

I suggest another reason. A small dedicated faction of prgressives actively seek to place people in the key PR departments of large corporations. They have been doing this for decades. They network with each other, play musical chairs to fill an empty spot.

Conservatives/libertarians never apply for the PR, HR and other positions that influence the direction of the company. We apply for sales and technical positions.
