I find that many people enter into despair when dementia shows up. That just makes the problem worse.

After watching family members battling it, I found there are some things that make dementia worse

1. Reclusiveness
2. Poor diet, lack of fluids
3. Refusing to accept the dementia
4. Avoiding analytical work such as figuring out what day it is

My aunt is a case study on how to make it worse. She refuses to even try to figure out the day or date. She is frequently dehydrated which adds confusion. I tried to get her to watch HGTV but she ends up watching movies which just confuse her even more. She blames everyone else for her confusion.

I tried to keep my husband engaged. He liked to work, and in addition to going to our land to build the cabin, he would take a broom outside and sweep the sidewalk from one end of the block to the other. However, one day he reached the point where he forgot to come back and just keep sweeping. I called the police and they found him sweeping 10 blocks away. I could never let him go out alone again. He was sociable, ate my good food, water and vitamins. As his memory shortened he forgot his previous resentments and angers. I never tried pushing the analytic work, but instead of watching the intricacies and speed of football and basketball, he could follow soccer for a while and golf until the end. Even though for the last year he could only say 2 or 3 words together, one day we were watching a speech by a politician and he said very emphatically Bull Shxx, and I must say he was right on with his analysis.

If the blaming has a paranoid quality, you might ask the doctor about using Respiradol.
