Earth’s “Magnetosphere” COLLAPSED in space TODAY for two+ hours! Trouble ahead for all of us

A stunning and terrifying event has taken place in space surrounding our planet; for two hours today, earth’s “Magnetosphere” COLLAPSED around the entire planet! The magnetosphere is what protects earth from solar winds and some radiation. EARTH’S MAGNETOSPHERE

Deep within the Earth, a fierce molten core is generating a magnetic field capable of defending our planet against devastating solar winds. The protective field, called the “magnetosphere” extends thousands of miles into space and its magnetism affects everything from global communication to animal migration and weather patterns. The magnetosphere is the region of space surrounding Earth where the dominant magnetic field is the magnetic field of Earth, rather than the magnetic field of interplanetary space. The magnetosphere is formed by the interaction of the solar wind with Earth’s magnetic field. This figure illustrates the shape and size of Earth’s magnetic field that is continually changing as it is buffeted by the solar wind.

Agree with mini ice age prediction. But will no magnetic field plus low solar activity mean more clouds and rain ( more cosmic rays reach atmosphere).

There is something to be said about scales of size.
How much magnetism does your small magnet project in the stratosphere? Same question about CERN?

ALMOST NO CHANCE OF FLARES: Solar activity is very low.

The second statement is the worst for us all

The Sun's magnetic field is in decline...

so less sunspots

Last time that happened was a mini ice age lasting 400 years

1350 to 1750

Life becomes short cold and brutish.

True, CERN’s effect would be local and minuscule. That is why I do not worry about CERN. It is truly amazing that the earth's magnetic field is just strong enough to protect the earth. Thank GOD for the inverse square law.

In the case of a reversal, do we then need to start orienting our navigational compasses, etc. off of what formerly was the south magnetic pole?

I just saw a cloud of bats circling my pond right now and I have NEVER had bats. I think it is throwing migration a loop.

I remember when I was in high school we were taught that we were going into another Ice Age. Then as you say Global Warming, Climate Change and seems some scientists now think we are headed for Ice Age. Hahaha I am a little confused myself and I didn’t miss anything... that I know of.

It collapsed by thirty points in January. We’d be lucky to be averaging 100 now.

“The earth’s magnetic field is very weak,”

Funny thing about Magnetic Fields - they decay at about 1/r^3 power.

That the earth has a field of about 0.4 G at 4000 miles, means it’s pretty strong at it’s source. CERN at a mile away is probably negligible compared to the earths at 4000 miles. CERN magnets are intended to deflect charged particle beams. They are strong if you are next to them, not so much if you take a dozen steps away.

I think there will be much higher altitude clouds (albedo) as well as an increased cooling from volcanism. There seems to be a substantial uptick now. Some papers provided by a fellow Freeper show a feedback loop in the stratosphere of the polar regions. This is the result of the destruction of the ozone from volcanic aerosols.

On the surface of the earth the magnetic field is only about 0.6 to 0.65 G due to geographical variation. I will have to calculate what is the magnetic field strength at the core, I never thought of doing that calculation. Even small magnets can over come the earth’s field at the surface.

BPEarthWatch? Seriously?

This was the same guy (a crank with absolutely no scientific background) who claimed a few years ago that comet ISON was going to destroy the Earth with massive meteors – a “planet changer” and would even cause “mad cow disease”. Before that he was hysterical over comet Elenin.
