Donald Trump Is Not Your Protector: A Warning to Conservative Christians
Townhall.com ^ | April 22, 2016 | Michael Brown

Posted on 04/23/2016 10:27:39 AM PDT by Kaslin

Donald Trump has presented himself as a protector of conservative Christians and as the best friend Christians will ever have.

He has held up his mother’s Bible and pledged to bring Christ back into Christmas.

But when the rubber meets the road, he is anything but the defender of conservative Christians and their values.

This became crystal clear yesterday morning (April 21), when Trump, appearing on the Today show, answered questions on abortion, North Carolina’s Bathroom Privacy Act, and transgender rights.

When he was asked if he would like to change the Republican Party Platform on abortion, which allows no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother, Trump replied without hesitation, “Yes, I would, absolutely, for the three exceptions. I would.”

In response, conservative leader Richard Viguerie told LifeSiteNews, “. . . he has zero chance of accomplishing that. The Republican Party is not going to change. We are a pro-life party, and the Republican Party is not going to change that.”

Certainly, the questions of rape, incest, or the life of the mother are terribly painful questions that deserve thoughtful and compassionate answers, especially from other women

But if you’re pro-life, you’re pro-life. As Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life for America asked, “Does he want to put an exception into the platform saying it's OK to murder a two-year-old child whose father is a rapist, too? Or is he only OK with it as long as the child hasn't been born yet?”

In the words of Rebecca Kiessling, herself conceived by a rape, “Donald Trump has the audacity to suggest that the Republican grassroots has been wrong to believe in protecting innocent children like me who were conceived in rape. My message to Donald Trump, and others like him is this: Punish rapists, not babies!”

So much for Donald Trump being a pro-life champion and defender of conservative Christian values.

But it gets worse.

He actually criticized North Carolina’s HB2, designed to protect the safety of women and children, stating, “North Carolina did something that was very strong, and they’re paying a big price. There’s a lot of problems.”

He indicated it was best to let people use the bathroom they felt comfortable with, showing no concern for all the people affected by that decision.

Yet across America, it is conservative Christians who have raised their voices the loudest in support of bills like HB2, standing up for the safety and privacy of women and children and not wanting heterosexual predators to use the loophole of “transgender rights” to prey on our wives, children, or grandchildren.

Senator Cruz had no trouble voicing his support for HB2, stating last week that these laws made perfect sense because “men should not be going to the bathroom with little girls.”

He said, “That is a perfectly reasonable determination for the people to make.”

But of course.

In stark contrast, Trump said that Bruce (Caitlyn) Jenner would be welcome to use the ladies’ room in one of his buildings.

I wonder how his wife and daughters would feel if they were in a bathroom and a burly, transgender “woman” came walking in?

Or what if they were coming out of the shower stalls at a gym, with their towels wrapped around them, only to find a biological male sitting there in his underwear?

Would he have no problem with this?

Perhaps Donald Trump is not only failing to protect the rights and liberties of babies in the womb and conservative Christians but also of women in general?

In response to Trump’s remarks, Ted Cruz issued this statement:

“Donald Trump is no different from politically correct leftist elites. Today, he joined them in calling for grown men to be allowed to use little girls’ public restrooms. As the dad of young daughters, I dread what this will mean for our daughters - and for our sisters and our wives. It is a reckless policy that will endanger our loved ones.

“Yet Donald stands up for this irresponsible policy while at the same time caving in on defending individual freedoms and religious liberty. He has succumbed to the Left's agenda, which is to force Americans to leave God out of public life while paying lip service to false tolerance.”

Whether you like Cruz or not (I have endorsed him, but we each have to make our own choices), if you’re a conservative Christian, you have to be more comfortable with his position on these issues than with the positions of Donald Trump.

And in light of the growing tide of an increasingly irrational transactivism, Cruz was right to ask, “Have we gone stark raving nuts?”

If you’re a Trump supporter, you might say, “I know he’s not a Christian and I don’t even think he’s a real conservative, but I’m voting for him because I believe he’s the best man to fix our economy and protect our borders.”

I beg to differ, but I can respect that position.

But please don’t look to him to be a defender of conservative Christian values or a protector of religious freedoms.

Barring dramatic divine intervention in his life, you will be sadly disappointed.

Be forewarned.

You nailed it. I could not have said it any better. The issue of penises in women’s restrooms is a revolting one but it is near rock bottom on the list of 1000 most important issues. First things first. Get rid of political correctness and get in power. Then stomp the sh*t out of the queers and perverts who keep crossing and trying to tear down the lines of decency and proper social decorum. As of now they can stick their fudge packers into their ears in public in front of a Church. But their days are numbered and they won’t be deterring us in the meantime from mending our fences and preparing to secure our zones.

I keep my tagline, as a reminder that the actual perverts are NOT the only ones going to be held to account... The majority are 'Lot's wife', and do not give a damn about poking their finger in God's eye. Then this moron plays like a preacher lecturing US about Christian protection. Thirty + years ago I NEVER sent my children into a public restroom alone. And I regardless of laws, check out any restroom before I enter... I am NOT opposed to NC law, but that law is not going to keep perverts doing what they are inclined to do... And all these that decide to punish the economy of NC, I am free to boycott... It is not anywhere near the concerns of a presidential candidate.

Too many calling themselves conservative love the Soviet style bureaucracy, and write policy papers by the tonnage, thinking they are the 'smartest' people God ever created.

Hey, no kidding. No one running for public office is my protector. My protector is the Lord Jesus Christ. None other is to be trusted. Every single one of the candidates running will fail us, either through their own personal beliefs or their own personal habits. That is what happens in a fallen world.

Well said! This is the sort of commentary we see every election, trying to get those excitable Christians all riled up about some candidate the Left is afraid of. It’s become laughable. The vast majority of us realize we’re electing a President, not a “Christian protector,” whatever that is.

Thank you. Christ had a lot to say about those that come in His name... some of them He says He never knew. I am exhausted by these that wear Jesus like costume jewelry, but in reality are ravenous wolves.

I have mixed feelings about this too. Why is the GOP making promises that they can’t keep? Life of the mother might be one about which even sincere ethicists might disagree; the law about triage situations is well established, and a church might rightly exhort a higher position than one we would expect a government to exhort.

I’d try to deal with rape/incest situations from the standpoint of enhanced social support for women caught in these circumstances, to carry the baby to term and permit it to be adopted if they still do not wish to raise it. The sense that it is an unbearable insult to a woman to require her to gestate a baby that is the result of a rape, is one that dies hard. But it is easy to get momentum behind a meme that this is a beautiful thing for a woman in such a situation to choose, because the baby is not the rapist.

To express a difference between ideals and what Caesar will penalize failure to meet, may be wisdom if it represents a better, more honest position than we have been taking to date.

Agree, but we adults need to help make aware the children just coming up and the children inhabiting adult bodies, of the many lies and deceptions all around.

You are describing conservatism, personal, individual responsibility... Unfortunately, common core education has stripped 'common sense' away and 'we the people' in far too many numbers, rely upon a nanny government.

Townhall is run by Salem communications. Almost all their talking heads spend hours bashing Trump.

I’ve noticed townhall does seem to have a lot of the most viscous anti Trumpers. Caught a bit of one show going on and on about “moron” Trump last weekend.

I don’t think these folks realize the damage they are doing to “conservative” media. You can’t unring these bells, IMO. I’ll never have much interest in “conservative” media again.

Because they don’t care. It’s just primary season red meat for the base. They make promises they have ZERO intention of ever keeping.

No, I don’t have any faith or trust in Trump. Nor do I have any faith or trust in any candidate the GOP might dredge up. Nor do I have any faith or trust in the American people. Or anything to do with the country.

The whole damned nation has become a sick, demented, faggoty hellhole, and I don’t have any remote belief left that it’s going to turn around. All I’m going to do is perhaps buy some marshmallows to cook over the flames as they continue to engulf this sick, sorry shadow of a formerly great nation.

I don’t know anything about the much-beleaguered “common core” that requires this. It has suggested some questionable math techniques (maybe ones that are better suited to mental math than to paper math) but I see it scapegoated when it never presumed to command the entire academic cloud around it. Lazy, amoral teachers seem to be a worse problem.

Thanks, this explains the motivation of some of those posters, who really hate Trump!:

Hillary announced she spent a million dollars on internet trolls. Leftists love personal attacks. The math isn't hard.

Which begs the question, who is paying Kaslin for these persistent, scurrilous Trump-attacks? Or is Kaslin working for free, and for who? All I ever see from that poster are consistent and persistent hit pieces on Trump. At least Cincinatus Wife had the grace to (apparently) take a break from her own personal anti-Trump jihad.

There is coming a time here on FR where I believe it will be necessary to move from the *Zotting* of individual Trump-hating trolls, to lobbing some Old Testament style lightning bolts and dispatch the purveyors of this kind of crap. Who benefits from these articles? Do they contribute to unifying everyone behind our presumptive nominee, or do they promote dissension on FR, and provide more ammo to the 'RATS for the general election?

I’m just sick of the mindless retorts to what should be seen as an opportunity to have discussions based on critical thinking and reasoning out conservative philosophy. I’ll admit, one of my earliest post nearly 18 years ago was about a study showing drinking beer made women’s breasts larger (hardly the stuff of Locke or DeToqueville, but it did provide some needed levity).

These words are the definition of 'common core'.

NO they aren’t; common core is a curriculum, not a standard for teachers that they dare not exceed.

FRC PRAISES CRUZ DE-REG PLANS TAKING GOVERNMENT OUT OF RELIGION
America’s Christian bakers and florists and wedding planners will be safe under a Ted Cruz presidency. “I am absolutely convinced in my discussions with the senator that religious liberty will be a lot better off in America with a Cruz administration,” Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council and Chair of Cruz’s Religious Liberty Advisory Council emphsized when endorsing Cruz. These are the policies that he is going to pursue,” Perkins announced. “He is absolutely committed to the issue of religious liberty

The council was calling on Cruz to direct a review of the IRS’ treatment of religious organizations and to direct federal agencies to respect the free exercise of religion. Cruz said he will Defend and protect small business owners facing assault for refusing to violate their religious beliefs.

“ Rescind Executive Order 13672 – an order that requires certain federal contractors to not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity; - Direct all federal agencies to stop interpreting “sex” to include “sexual orientation” and/or “gender identity.” - Direct the Department of Health and Human Services to eliminate its requirement that all employers include coverage for all FDA-approved contraceptive methods and sterilization procedures;.

“As president, I have pledged on my first day in office to rescind every single one of President Obama’s unconstitutional executive actions, and to direct every federal agency to respect and protect the religious liberty of every American ,” This was the Cruz response to the claim of running for pastor ridicule made by the Trump campaign which does not seem to realize there is a war declared on religious values by the Godless democrats..
