Speaking of Bach parodies, what ever happened to Walter/Wendy Carlos of Switched On Bach fame? I think he was the first tranny I’d ever heard about.

“GRAND SERENADE FOR AN AWFUL LOT OF WINDS AND PERCUSSION”

Frank Zappa? Weird Al?
I always thought classically trained formal musicians were
beyond this kind of stuff but I see it’s a bunch of kids. Kinda caught me off guard but it was entertaining.

Thanks for the post.

Peter Schickele has been around forever - in his 80s now. He’s actually written quite a bit of things, including movie and theatrical scores (Silent Running, Oh Calcutta) and worked a lot with Joan Baez. But he best known for PDQ Bach.

His PDQ Bach “On The Air” was not only a great showcase for his satirical Bach but a great poke at Radio too. One of my favorites..”Report From HOOPLE!”

Yes, he is now 80. I heard him perform 49 years ago. I once met his father, Rainer Schickele (1905-1989).

I got him to sign my copy of the Autobiography of P.D.Q Bach many years ago.

Quite entertaining man. Very talented too!

I love PDQ Bach. Our very talented high school music department did a full-on concert... including Concerto for Horn & Hardart and the baseball play-by-play version of Beethoven’s 5th.

Lucky you! He performed in the early 90s in San Francisco at one of the main classical music venues. They opened with their hilarious mishandling of a bunch of metal music stands.
