Gay waitress: Instead of a tip, women left a Bible verse (NC)
The State ^ | 4/20/2016

A Charlotte waitress says she was infuriated and hurt when a group of ladies left a message for her on their bill – taking aim at her sexual orientation.

Alexandra Judd works at Zada Janes in Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood. She says a group of patrons she served for lunch Tuesday morning left her a “hateful message” in lieu of a tip.

A Bible verse was left on the tip pointing Judd to Leviticus 20:13.

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination,” the King James version of the Old Testament verse reads. “They shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”

Judd is gay.

The bottom of the receipt had a message for her as well: “Praying for you!”

“I never expected a hateful gesture like this,” Judd said of the comments. “I’ve had a guest leave me a pamphlet to their church as a tip one time, but I didn’t feel as if they were being hateful towards me. The ladies that came in were very rude, and would hardly talk to me – but I never expected this.”

She says she was infuriated and hurt by what she saw.

“I’ve heard of people leaving fake money, or writing funny stuff in the tip spot of a check but never believed it would happen to me, in the way that it did,” she said. Judd posted a picture of the receipt on her Facebook page. Her co-workers and friends have shared the post and shared their shock and anger in the comments.

According to Judd, she’s lived in North Carolina nearly a year after moving from a small town in Alabama.

She has taken part in a few rallies for equality since she has moved to Charlotte, including Wednesday night’s rally in uptown Charlotte against North Carolina’s House Bill 2.

“I don’t care what anyone says, this is the most disrespectful thing you can do,” she wrote about the incident on Facebook. “Don’t pray for me darling, I have everything I could possibly want and need in my life.”

If so (and I agree, that’s my assumption going in), then it was via an otherwise blank receipt - the handwriting seems to match all around.

The handwriting would match if it was all written by the customer... the customer would normally write in the tip and total after tip, so that part makes sense.

If I’m reading the receipt correctly, that’s the customer copy that should have been kept by the payee. If that was left blank on the table, then that would open the opportunity for the fraud.

Yes, that’s another discrepancy. Wouldn’t you think these hoaxers would get a clue? From Dan Rather to (now) Alexandra Judd, it’s not so hard to figure out.

Other details seem to show this was a hoax.

But how many Christians, asked to come up with a bible verse on the issue, will come up with this one, rather than 1 Cor 6:11?

IT MATTERS. One is law, the other gospel. The ones who come up with 1 Cor 6:11 probably will have far greater rewards in heaven if the rest of their conduct is in sync with it.

Yep, another victim hoax.

I wonder how much money she’ll rake in from the fund she sets up for herself.

Precisely. The Article said the diners were rude. That destroyed any witness they might have had.

If I knew the sexual orientation of my waitress, I would be far less likely to tip. When I eat out, which is not common, I am not there to hear about a stranger’s bedroom activities.

It wouldn’t be possible to gin up such outrage, whether for the sake of money or just notoriety, if more Christians actually thought gospel and showed it.

The hoax is based on a pattern of fact, which is Christians that aren’t even trying very hard to reflect Jesus.

It’s possible they were both rude AND yacking about things Christian.

Then when they left behind their customer receipt, the waitress gave into temptation. I think it’s hoax (it’s the merchant receipt that would show this if real) but anyone who reads FR knows how people in general tend to exaggerate things, let alone sex sinners.

I’ve had dining partners comment to me that the server seemed to be weird. But even looking weird isn’t an infallible rule today; some straights ape gay looks just because they think it’s cool. A guy with a bodacious earring once waited a table where I dined and I thought for sure, gay... till I overheard him talking about his ex.

Snap judgments have a way of coming unfastened.

Whether the story is true or not, a tip should be related to the service received. If the service was poor, then no tip but an explanation why there was no tip, might be appropriate, as a means to educate the server so she COULD earn better tips in the future. If the service was good, give the server a monetary tip. Don’t withhold a tip because of their sexual orientation, hair colour, choice of ‘tats’ (or not), choice of ‘piercings’ (or not), etc. Unfortunately, Christians have, and have had for a long time, a reputation of being ‘cheap’ when it comes to gratuities, sometimes even offering a Bible tract as a tip, rather than a gratuity. If you can afford to eat out, you better be able to afford the tip, or at least reduce your order so you CAN tip!

Too many ‘Christians’ try to beat non-Believers over the head with their faith. We are to be the ‘fragrance’ of the Lord, to be His ambassadors. How did Jesus treat the woman caught in adultery? How did He treat the Samaritan woman who had been married multiple times?

If the waitress is lying about what happened, that will be yet another thing that she will pay for in eternity, unless she comes to the Lord for forgiveness of all her sins. If this story is true, I can understand where several of the ‘church ladies’ may have written on the bill, one adding the ‘praying for you!’ commment at the bottom. It is possible. Yes, pray for her, or GRACIOUSLY ask her if you CAN pray for her. She already has a poor opinion of Christians so TELLING her that you will pray for her is like waving a red handkerchief in front of a bull. It is NOT extending His Grace to her, nor acting as His ambassadors.

AFA anyone who is truly upset about what happened in this story, Jesus told us that there would be troubles in this life, and that if we are living a ‘Christian’ life, we can expect to be hated. The world is satan’s (within the limits God allows him), so why would it NOT hate Christians? How gracious was Jesus on the cross? He asked His Father to forgive those who lied about Him so that He would be crucified! Even if the Pharisees had not put Him on the cross, ours sins put Him there. How can we not extend to others, the Grace that He extended to us?

Most Western Christians (including me), have grown accustomed to a relatively easy life where something like this is considered ‘suffering’ for their faith. WOW! When compared to what Believers face in other parts of the world face, this event is less than nothing. It is no wonder that persecuted churches around the world, pray for us!

Shocks me that she even knows that was a Bible verse.

One of the few verse references that the sodomites know, so they can use it to bash Christians.

The other is "don't judge" - greatly truncated out of all context.

In this case, the article says she’s gay, and I assume she also intentionally let the patrons know. Why would she “share” that with a customer? Unless a waitress is hitting on me, I don’t want to know that she’s straight either (and since I only dine out with my wife, it would be odd for a waitress to let me know even for that reason).

Give the waitress her own bathroom and all will be well.

My question would be how would the customer even KNOW unless the waitress was pushing the issue.

First thing I see is that is the customer copy, not the merchant copy, the copy you don’t fill out or sign.

Some poor schlep forget their copy of the receipt and is now drug into yet another internet storm in a teacup.

Sorry GC, didn’t mean it as a criticism of you.

It was a criticism of he general zeitgeist. A waitress is unhappy with her tip, and it becomes a national news story.

I should have been more clear.
