Notorious slaver Andrew Jackson to be removed from the $20 bill and replaced by a prominent woman

A woman representing the struggle for racial equality will replace Jackson

And a mural depicting women's suffrage will appear on the back of the $10 Exactly which woman will appear on the $20 bill is not yet known

But Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks have been selected in an unofficial poll The rear of the $5 will also change, showing events at the Lincoln Memorial

The new $20 notes will not be issued until 2030 at the earliest

No US bills have featured a woman as a central image for over 100 years

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew will announce this week that Alexander Hamilton will remain on the $10 bill and Andrew Jackson will be pushed off the $20 note in favor of a woman from American history, CNN said Saturday.

The announcement will come around a year after an online petition called for Jackson to be replaced with a woman, and ten months after Lew announced he wanted to replace Hamilton instead.

But support for the Founding Father to stay picked up steam thanks to the hit Broadway musical 'Hamilton', and now a government source tells CNN that Jackson will get the push instead.

Rather than removing Hamilton from the $10 bill, the rear of the note will instead feature a mural depicting women's suffrage.

And Jackson will be ousted in favor of a woman representing the fight for racial equality, the source said.

But don't expect to be trading in your old notes any time soon - creating a counterfeit-proof bank note requires input from the U.S. Secret Service, the Treasury, and the Federal Reserve.

That means the new $20 note won't be issued until 2030 - at the earliest.

'We should not expedite the issuance of any currency for political purposes.'

Based on the way things are going in this country, this is the most likely outcome.

I don’t understand why they waste money and effort on changing currency?
I see the need to make it less easy to counterfeit but they keep making new nickel and penny images too.I’m sure people get paid to submit schetches, make molds etc etc etc - so many better things for govt to spend money on than just designing more money.

Jeannette Rankin, first woman elected to and served in the US Congress, before women were even given the right to vote on a Federal basis. She represented Montana, a state which had granted full suffrage to adult females several years earlier.

She was a notorious pacifist, though, voting against entry into both the First and Second World Wars. This may or may not be looked upon as some kind of high moral principle.

Just the back of the five will change. Abe gets to keep his face on the five dollar bill.
= = =

Abe’s face is the same.

His rear gets LGBT treatment.

Putting Jackson on a Federal Reserve Note was perverse to begin with.

Putting a woman on the note instead for tokenism purposes seems appropriate in the context of the planned debasement of the currency.

And a mural depicting women's suffrage will appear on the back of the $10

I thought a number of female college students signed a petition against women's suffrage...

I’ll bet they are thinking more along the lines of Beyoncé, Jane Fonda or Slick Willie’s wife. I’d kind of like to see Maureen O’Hara or Lucille Ball.

At the rate of inflation, by 2030 the $20 will not even be around. The folks left will be using fifties in the manner we now use fives.
I know, they tell us inflation is under control.
Yeah. I also know what things costs 10 years ago, 20 years ago and so on.

I don't consider that comparable to anything Hamilton or Jackson did.

Melania Trump would be the obvious candidate here.

It's what Jackson did to the American Indians that should disqualify him for the honor of adorning US currency.
His life story is true Americana, but his actions weren't.

This assumes the dollar is around in 2030. That’s a big if. What will the debt be then, 2,000 Trillion?
