It’s his own fault for being white! That’s not going to be tolerated in this country anymore. (do I need a sarc tag?)

At the point that others get involved in attacking the officer, he has more than enough cause to use deadly force. No officer should have to face such danger and deal out force by the thimbleful.

Only if you didn't mean what you wrote.

Maybe I’ve been too long out of the recreational drug culture but, WTH does that sentence mean?

Historically a conquering people often treat the vanquished poorly(see for example the Spartans and the Helots.) Whites will get used to poor treatment as time goes by.

Yep, that was bad, really bad. There was even a kick to the officer's head when has was down.

I guess the cop was patrolling alone, with no partner. They're gonna have to reevaluate that policy.

Because the police standing down worked out so well last year in Baltimore.

I know that housing project well. There’s another (I forget the name) on Murfreesboro Rd. that should be nuked.

A lot of departments patrol alone, due to manpower constraints and other considerations. When an officer observes an offense or a wanted suspect, he often has to act alone, not anticipating any escalation of resistance. Otherwise, they would be procedureally paralyzed.

We can't fall into the trap of blaming an officer or a department when thugs attack them alone. The blame fully falls on the scumbags.

A nation with many distinct cultures - and no desires to assimilate - usually falls apart. The breakup could be peaceful (like with the Soviet Union), a bit messy (Yugoslavia), or very messy (the partition of India).

I wonder which of these will be the fate of the USA.

No way am I blaming the officer or the department. But this was obviously an unsafe situation for a lone officer. I understand that such situations are often unavoidable.

Now, I'm just thinking out loud here. There are many retired police and military who are in their early 50's. The stress of their jobs earned them that early retirement.

But what about putting them on police forces (voluntarily, of course) as back-ups to regular officers, working maybe two days a week?

Great idea. The department I worked for had reserve officers as volunteers. Although many of them where younger, concerned citizens who wanted to make a difference, a few were close to retirement age.

My take is that a show of greater force (more officers) would have been denounced as "racist" by the #BlackLiesMatter cretins, with the help of Sharpton and Jackson, not to mention Obama.
