Police hunt two Brazilian bank robbers who wrapped themselves head-to-toe in TINFOIL in successful bid to beat alarm system
Police in Brazil are hunting two bank robbers who wrapped themselves up in tin foil in a bizarre attempt to fool its alarm system.
The daring ruse worked and the alarm didn't sound - but an armed police response unit was mobilised after they were picked up moving around inside the bank in their odd disguises on a central CCTV monitoring system.
An accomplice believed to have been acting as a lookout was arrested - but the two men whose faces were hidden under their head-to-toe disguise got away.

“Seems mute, as it wouldnt also prevent motion detection.”
It will stop motion detection if the detector is IR only.
A good microwave/IR duel tech detector costs 10 times what a cheapie IR only detector does. Businesses (and this includes some banks) cheap out on equipment all the time. I have never seen a good, high grade digital camera installed in a bank, everything I see is just a step above the 7-11 junk that barely tells the race of the person on the video. There are cams that can tell how long ago you shaved, and they are not that much more expensive.
Same deal on detectors. There isn’t really all that much to secure in a bank, so they do not pop for 10,000+ dollar security systems.
Tinfoil works, as does glass and a good strong fan of appropriate diameter.
I guess their plan was foiled.
Why do folks insist on calling it tin foil when it’s ALUMINUM foil. /chemist pet peeve
“Police hunt two bank robbers who wrapped themselves head-to-toe in TINFOIL”
The bank was robbed by leftovers who promptly escaped in
a nondescript refrigerator.
I can attest to how banks will cheap out on any and everything.
A few years ago, I did some contractor work for BofA through an outfit that was beyond awful. They cheaped out even beyond BofA. I was out of work and needed something.
I will eat grass and pick up cans from the side of the road before I get involved with anything like that or electronics recycling.
Yeah, that's one pre-WWII piece of the vernacular that really won't die.
Why does everyone call aluminum foil “tinfoil”?
Why does everyone call aluminum foil “tinfoil”?
Are they 9/11 “truther” ...??
They usually just wrap their heads in tinfoil.....
I don’t know, but the Reynold’s Wrap folks must be paying close attention. LOL
So what are their screen names on FR?
BTW: Edison’s first phonograph WAS a “tin-foil phonograph.” I don’t think there was aluminum foil in 1877.
“Tin foil had other uses, too. It was also used as a recording medium for a time (Thomas Edisons famous 1877 recitation of Mary Had a Little Lamb was on tin), but because the recordings didnt last very long, manufacturers switched to wax cylinders.”
This paragraph is really off the wall. There WERE no “manufacturers” of recordings until around 1890, and no “manufacturers” ever “switched” from tin foil to wax.
The tin foil recordings made on Edison’s first machines lasted only until the foil was unwrapped from the mandrel. Some still exist, as flat pieces of foil, and it is possible to read them with lasers. Edison abandoned the phonograph for ten years, and then others began to experiment with wax cylinders and discs. Edison then took up the phonograph again.
I thought I was being kind.
Do your own research.
I was just pointing out that ONE paragraph was off the wall.
Excuuuuuse me!
PFFFFFFFT!
Did I attack you??????
I thought I was being chatty and interesting, just pointing out that ONE paragraph was a little out of kilter.
What did I say that was so offensive?????
