This is obviously targeted to those who use their 2nd car to only go to work and back and maybe the store, pick up the kids from school ect.

It's not for road trips obviously.

And what it accomplishes is not having to buy gas which saves people money. That cost to plug it in at home overnight wont even be noticeable.

“That cost to plug it in at home overnight wont even be noticeable. “

Tesla vehicles shave an 85kWh (kilowatt hours) Battery. The average cost per kilowatt is 12.5 centers per kilowatt hour.

85kWh * 12.5 center per kWh = $10.63 to charge it.

I think people will notice $10 per day, or $300 per month, and that is for current electricity charges. If the entire nation went to electric cars image the cost increases as they have the population by the short and curlies: 20 cents per kilowatt, a $1.00 maybe?

Obama has been shutting down coal fired plants. Nuclear hasn’t been emerging. The grid must also be upgraded to handle the extra juice. Costs will skyrocket. Home use will cost more. Politicians will start vote buying by providing tax breaks for electric cars, causing costs to go up for other uses.

Huh?

The specs for this model aren’t available, but a model S uses 38 kwh/100 miles. A reasonable cost of electricity is 12 cents/kwh...so every 100 miles, you pay $4.56.

My car gets 29 mpg...and Gas Buddy says I can buy gas for $1.76/gal...I pay $6.07 to go that 100 miles.

IOW, a Tesla would be 25% cheaper for me to operate.

But I certainly would NOTICE the cost. It isn’t magical - I drive 18k a year to work and back, which would be an additional $68/month to my power bill.
