One is that something Trump does is just so outrageous and disgusting, it knocks him out of the race and by default Ted Cruz becomes the nominee. (You can stop laughing ruefully now; I’m sure we all know now that’s not going to happen.)

The second is that Ted Cruz wins 80 percent of the Republican delegates going forward, passes Trump and takes it on the first ballot at the convention in July. At the moment, no one seems to believe this scenario is viable — not even the Cruz camp, which doesn’t bother talking it up.

The third is that Trump doesn’t secure enough delegates to win it on the first ballot and the GOP rises up on subsequent ballots to take it away from him and give the nomination to someone else.

Unless Trump gets the votes before the Convention, they'll give it to Paul Ryan.

I think if Trump comes up short on 1237, the GOPe will also kick Cruz’s tool butt to the curb, and probably will nominate Kasich.

“Does Kasich have a following? Yes, he does, of people who still cry when they listen to “Eleanor Rigby” and its invocation of “all the lonely people” and who want a hug because their Aunt Minnie has the shingles.”

So true.

Does Kasich have a following? Yes, he does, of people who still cry when they listen to “Eleanor Rigby” and its invocation of “all the lonely people” and who want a hug because their Aunt Minnie has the shingles.

While writing this article, GOPe John Podhoretz shed more tears than a Kasich supporter listening to “Eleanor Rigby” on an endless loop.

The leaders of the RNC have clearly stated that the people who vote in the primaries do not choose the candidate, the party leaders do. If the RNC holds a brokered convention and even though the people have rejected him, Jeb Bush will likely get the nomination.

Pretty good article. Which is why Mitt Romney filed papers with FEC in January and why Paul Ryan continues to say “not interested”, which all us guys learned in high school backseats usually means “Maybe...if you ask real nice”.

The cold hard fact remains that Cruz is hated by his own party and will instantly be sued on the birthplace issue if he ever were to become the nominee. There’s no way in hell the GOPe will select him for those reasons. Jeb! and Litel Marco have fallen so far they are no longer viable choices.

They make the rules, they can change the rules and screw Trump and put in a Romney/Ryan or similar slate of candidates and take their chances with lawsuits and general chaos. At least (they will lie to themselves) they will have “saved the Party” and protected the Congressional majority.

Meanwhile Trump has lots of cards to play. None good for the GOPe. Ted has none.

Wake up, Cruz and Kasich — the GOP convention will never nominate you

I agree with this. I don't know what he really thinks but if I were Cruz's strategy guy I would try to be the guy who didn't get the nomination but left everyone saying "oh wow, we should have picked him". You know, Reagan 1976. Then four years later, try to parlay that into something. It's his best hope. Not this year.

From the article: ... “Cruz’s political rise in Washington came when he won by losing....he got himself famous by opposing his own party, forcing a government shutdown,... claiming he and his followers had been screwed by Establishment Republicans. It worked for him. It’s not going to work for him now. You can’t win the GOP nomination by losing.”

Winning by losing, now that’s a great strategy!

The logic is clear. Cruz’s political rise in Washington came when he won by losing. That is to say, he got himself famous by opposing his own party, forcing a government shutdown, not getting what he wanted and claiming he and his followers had been screwed by Establishment Republicans. It worked for him.

It’s not going to work for him now. You can’t win the GOP nomination by losing.

You lose Cruz — NO MATTER WHAT.

Realize it now and figure out your way ahead — by quitting the race.

One good thing: North Dakota is the last Caucus until the end of the Primaries!

Trump will win.

I get that.

Cruz may have his good reasons to keep playing, as I’ve hypothesized earlier.

Let’s all take a deep breath and let it play out.

Nobody’s votes are being changed by the harsh rhetoric, or Cruz’s continued candidacy.

Yep. They are going to get their Jeb/Ryan ticket by hook or by crook. If that’s the case Trump’s people sit it out. This is our last chance. I’m done after this election. Judging by the behavior of the republicans towards their frontrunner, I’d say this country is finished anyway. Unfortunate for our kids and grandkids. I’ll be one of those people Reagan talked about telling my grandkids how America used to be.

Good article by Podhoretz...looks like he's coming around.

A brokered convention won't choose Cruz or Kasich because, as he said, if Trump is not selected, why choose an even weaker candidate?

Either one or the other could bargain for the Veep slot if their delegates put Trump over the top.

Jeb won't be chosen (unless the convention goes insane--and that's always possible) because he was a non-started from the get-go.

Mitt could toss his hat into the ring once again, but I suspect Trump is prepared to negotiate that away by cutting a deal with Cruz or Kasich.

They are awake. They sold out...especially Cruz. This is obvious. His campaign staff has been taken over by establishment figures. He's doing their bidding now and screw conservatism...it no longer is compatible with his ambitions.
