He would have laughed at what some are able to now show with such amazing spectacle, and then put crappy performances and writing in front of it.

And get away with it.

The movie didn’t make anybody perfect; neither does the bible (the bible says so too).

Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Matthew, Catholic chapter five, Protestant verse forty eight,
as authorized, but not authored, by King James

The Passion that just ended on TV was not the Mel Gibson one, but a updated musical.

My wife and I just watched it and were both impressed by the quality of both the production but also the crowd. A mixture of races and ages all being inspired by the story of Christ.

Oh ok, thanks for the clarification.

The Gibson one was definitely explicit.

There have been passion plays all down the centuries. For the most important event on earth to be excluded from the rightful subjects of drama seems strange. Nobody should confuse it with the best available account any more than, say, a musical about Jimmy Carter should be confused with news stories. I’d be the first to say, if in doubt about something, go to the bible and check it out. On the other hand, people who might never dust off a bible or darken the door of a church would miss a very important story if it weren’t for such necessarily imperfect accounts. The umbrage taken at such things seems to vary in direct proportion to the status the one taking the umbrage thinks he is has in Christendom in general.

Ratings were so bad, it already got pulled from the schedule.

Almost was tempted to watch that. Networks are often their own worst enemy these days. This is the reason I never start into a new series until it has shown staying power. I hate devoting time to a show then being left hanging.

Watched it with the wife last night. Decent but not earth-shattering. It is always nice to see and hear some of the Truth about our Lord and Savior on TV, but I got “bored” with some of the sidelines (Katrina/the woman whose teenage son was “killed unnecessarily” 3 years ago and she wants God to give her justice and peace for it/the couple where the guy was in the military, etc.). Almost seemed like they wanted a vehicle for some other stuff - but it was worth watching overall - if you want a “modern day” version, look up “Jesus Christ Superstar” - may seem a bit outre’ but if one looks at the actual story - it’s all in there.

Similar here on many new series.

I did buy a TiVo a few weeks ago. It can record up to 4 cable TV channels at the same time, so I am recording some programs I would otherwise pass over.

The new series 'Family' is a similar example. I have 3 episodes recorded but have only watched Ep 1. I am waiting to see if it will have staying power.

Few new series are worth watching. Some of the cable channels, such as USA, TNT and FX, had some long-running series because they were pretty good quality (scripts and acting). Then, at the end of their runs, they were replaced with shoddy, cheap new series (so so scripts and acting) that didn't last more than a couple of seasons.

Some of the low-viewership cable channels occasionally have a short-run series that turns out to be good, but generally got bypassed by the viewers. National Geographic has one called Klondike, which was pretty good. Lifetime/A&E/History had War & Peace recently. I have it recorded, but have yet to watch it. The first episode was on about 4 related cable networks. The second and following episodes were only on Lifetime, so many people were wondering what happened to the series and thought it had been pulled.

That’s an entirely different problem you’re describing.

I’ve always suspected we don’t know the half of it. What took place on a spiritual level makes the physical suffering tame by comparison.

Very perceptive. For example, because Jesus is omniscient He is always fully aware of past/present/future; therefore, in some real sense He is still perpetually and actually being scourged and crucified in His mind--which perhaps helps to explain how His one death could pay for so very many sinners.

It’s a gracious sacrifice that embraces every moment in time that is needed for it to apply.

It seems strange that such a gracious act should turn into such an argie-bargie about exactly how people are apprised about it. Almost like the devil wanted to make it as hard as possible for people to know about it.

No need to “allege” it. The bible tells us so. Psalm 2 and other places.

And yet the answer urged is gracious. Kiss the Son. Not bend over while the Son does something unmentionable to you.

I point out what, mutando mutandis, IS the view of all too many “Christians.” They come up with a distorted God that is tickled to do evil.

And anyhow if I hadn’t answered, you just lied anyhow. You had the last word, up to that point.
