I think we can say with some confidence that, despite it's name, the Gettysburg Republican Compiler is actually a Democrat pro-slavery, anti-abolitionist paper, as illustrated by the following piece:
Note that the Compiler is here quoting favorably a Vermont
Democratic paper's comments criticizing the New York Tribune's pro-abolitionist opinions.
So we might well surmise here that media bias is not an invention of our own age... ;-)

The explanation of how a pro-Democrat rag could carry the name Republican is doubtless that when the paper was first printed, circa 1819, it was in support of Jefferson's Democratic Republican party.
