They called my dad this in Vietnam...

https://translate.google.com/?espv=2&biw=1280&bih=875&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.&bvm=bv.115277099,d.cGc&dpr=1&ion=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&client=tw-ob#auto/vi/fat

...cause he was plump. On the translate audio, it kinda sounds like mip is how they are saying it, but my dad always said it as “moap” as in soap. Maybe saying it fast sounds like moap.

Why did they call you Numba Ten?

This is my "moap" dad about that era (I think stateside in this pic, but not sure).

Cig in hand of course.

He wasn't too fat, but FAT compared to the Vietnamese. They liked him 'cause Buddha was chubby.

“I remember when cigarettes were removed from C-rats”

When was that?

We’d get more cigs in the field than we could use so we cut open the packs and buried them.

You’re welcome lp.

What is Phu Bai?

Found a Pinterest site, not specifically related to the lighters (it shows some), but Vietnam memories in general.

Thanks. Saw the Killing Fields a long time ago, but don’t remember a whole lot about it. I know the actual guy, Hang Ngor, starred in it. Have not heard about Journey From the Fall.

Phu Bai was, and I’m sure still is, a stinky place in I Corps which was south of Hue in the northern part of South Vietnam.

Thanks for the Pinterest but it is blocked by a popup.

Yeah, you have to be a member of Pinterest to see the pics. Sometimes if you click back, and then forward again, you can see the pics if a non member. I don’t like that.

He wasn't too fat, but FAT compared to the Vietnamese.

As a side note, the reason the Vietnamese were so slight in stature was due to their strict diets of rice and fish which contained no Vitamin D........

Regarding Journey from the Fall:

The film was received with critical acclaim. In the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, it received a score of 92% with a certified “Fresh” rating with the consensus being that “Ham Tran’s ambitious film proves to be extremely powerful due to stunning photography and passionate performances” and is currently ranked 27th in the Top 100 Best Movies of 2007.

Okay. Probably not on NetFlix. Sometimes I get lucky and find things on YT before they get deleted. :)
