I want all the info off that phone. I will not tolerate a key that would get beyond that one phone!! I am switching phone.

Not sure it is such a smart move for Trump to advocate boycotting Apple over this. I prefer Android for my phone, but there are lots of Apple fans out there. Now it turns out the real reason they need Apple’s help is because they screwed up so bad.

So they’d really be hacking the feds. Isn’t that illegal?

Trump has had several missteps lately.

No wonder it is taking them so long to “investigate” Hillary.

And people wonder why Trump says the gov’t is full of stupid people?

You'd be surprised how MANY Americans are for "law & order" of the 1930s-1940s German kind...

So, I'm not sure this is a misstep.

From another article: The Apple ID passcode for the San Bernardino shooter's iPhone was changed less than 24 hours after authorities took possession of the device, a senior Apple executive said today.

rpierce wrote: "So the county IT guy decided to get creative and set an unfortunate chain of events in motion. Sucks to be him right about now."

Let's not be so quick to judge.

Is there ANYONE in High Places, like, oh, for instance, a certain White Mosque, whose homeys would benefit from having the information slow-walked out - even totally prevented from coming out all together?

And then lied about it in their court filing, trying to blame the password change on some IT schlub in the San Berdoo health department!

And millions of people want more and more government.

How does Apple know the passcode changed?

“...in an attempt to gain access to some information in the hours after the attack...”

I guess sometimes when you are chasing mass murderers, you might think they are linked to another cell with a similar plan...and just be in a hurry to catch the bastards. They figured it was worth a shot, probably. They had no idea they would run into resistance from the company to help them catch murdering freaking ISIS killers and maybe a whole network.

Trump made a big mistake advocating a boycott of a very successful American company (I know all their products are made in China). Why would a business man of his caliber, not to mention a potential POTUS do that? If the Feds want the info off the phone let them do the breaking. There is a billion dollar NSA facility in Virginia with thousands of high priced and high powered technicians that should be able to pull it off.

“How does Apple know the passcode changed?”

...because it doesn’t match the one in their records :)

I think “the County Guy” is a fictitious character. This just convinces me all the more that my hunch is right. The story says the password was changed pretty quickly. That just reinforces my opinion that this brouhaha with Apple is a ruse.

My theory is that CIA, FBI, NSA, et al, have code experts every bit as clever as Apple. I think they cracked that phone pretty quickly; Got all the info that was in it; That we’ve had agents in the ME for a month or more following the leads they got off the phone. And this public squabble is for the ragheads, to assure them that anything they put on an iphone is absolutely secure, encouraging them to put more secrets on their iphones, for our ongoing discovery next time we capture one.

The idea that computer systems worth million$ can be hacked and cracked by some doofus sitting in his parents’ basement, sucking on a roach; but a $500 phone is impregnable to the Nation’s top investigative agencies, is ludicrous. JMHO.

“There is a billion dollar NSA facility in Virginia with thousands of high priced and high powered technicians that should be able to pull it off.”

Not to mention the computing power. I’m certain that they’ve cracked tougher nuts than this. But, of course, they won’t admit it. So, maybe someone can figure it out with a “lucky guess”...:)
