Just yesterday, I had a Mexican woman on the phone ask me if I knew Spanish. When I responded that I indeed did, and could I help her in (in fluent Spanish), she had the audacity and gall to ask me if I "...really knew Spanish." I told her in no uncertain terms in fluent Spanish that I spoke it like a native and did she want help or not. She calmed down. Such a thing is completely unprecedented. I have NEVER heard of or observed such behavior in a foreigner to a country confronting someone from that country and asking them if they REALLY knew the visitor's foreign language. Most folks visiting another country where they can not communicate are so glad to meet ANYONE who can at least in a broken fashion communicate enough to tell them where to get food, clothing, shelter or medical assistance.
Was asking a coworker why Mexicans are so rude when doing business with Americans. I told her I was simply tired of the rude behavior and treatment when dealing with them even when fluently speaking their language. My Mexican coworker's response to my question about the lack of civility? "It's because you're not Mexican." In a nutshell, she told the truth. Mexicans simply do NOT have respect for anyone or anything not Mexican, and, actually despise what is not Mexican (unless VERY well-educated). They represent the exact opposite of a PC philosophy and are not about to change. Just informing the general public.
Uppity hookers can indeed be a pain.
Guess you’ve never run into an Indian immigrant. Rude, false, cheap and lazy - all at the same time.
Yeah because Mexicans are sooo much better than any other ethnicity.
And they really despise other Hispanic countries. i knew a couple Mexicans who came here legally and when their daughter started dating a guy from Puerto Rico, they were furious.
Last time a customer asked me if I spoke Spainish, I told her I wasn’t from Spain and here in America we speak English.
Validation of what I just wrote. Exactly right.
“Melting Pot? We don’t need no steenking melting pot!”
Am I correct in assuming you are only speaking of 1st generation Mexicans (whether in the United States legally or legally) who either speak English very poorly or do not speak it at all?
Been my experience as well.
bump
As you probably know.
Mexicans do not speak Spanish. Spaniards speak Spanish. And maybe elite Mexicans from the interior, but the average Mexican?
Nada mucho.
Pretty much every country outside Europe and the Anglophone countries still believes on the ethnic nationism that used to exist prior to WWII.
That’s because they’re not letting misplaced guilt ruin their societies.
I can spot the contempt dripping from the tiny people when I'm walking down the street.
I guess it depends on the person, like with everything. My son does this job dealie through his high school. This area is highly Hispanic. So they sent him to a Mexican market, and he said he felt like the people were talking bad about him, and disrespectful and rude to him. I don’t doubt he was picking up on something. I will say, one man, that my son said was a short little non-English speaker (probably from Mexico) tipped him $5 for bagging his groceries. That was the only tip he got that day, but I thought nice of the man to do.
In a nutshell, she told the truth. Mexicans simply do NOT have respect for anyone or anything not Mexican, and, actually despise what is not Mexican (unless VERY well-educated).

I have a friend who is/was the average Mexican American. She married a rich Mexican (from the interior) who is whiter than me. They have a very European last name, speak perfect Castilian Spanish, and of course are very nice.
Another friend one time told a Mexican joke, then realized that Frances (not her real name) was - after all Mexican - and got so embarrassed!
Frances just laughed. After all she had nothing in common with the average Pedro.
Not at all unsurprising.
Been told so many times “you gonna speak Spahneesh!” by some cartoon Vaquero that I can’t remember them all.
They are imposing their nationality on us.
That’s what invading colonizers do.
The question is...do we let them?
The wife and I like to travel around. A few years ago we went out west with one her sisters from England and her husband, both very British. We noticed a number of non-chain hotels we stayed at were run by Asian Indians.
At one of these hotels we received very poor service from the owner-manager. My British bro-in-law chewed him out royally for his lousy service and failure to follow up on promises to improve things particularly about the poor internet service.
My b-in-law has worked with Indians in a number of foreign countries. "You've got to understand these people" he told us. "They won't do anything until you hold them accountable. All bloody Indians are the same" he ranted.
I don't know if they're quite that bad (we did get good service at one other Indian-run motel), but it seems Indian immigrants who are buying up many properties in the U.S. should quickly understand western ideas of good service to their customers.
It’s not just Mexicans.
I was working corrections and we had a number of Cuban inmates, I asked a Puerto Rican guard what they were saying and his reply was “Do I look like Doctor Doolittle?”
