New York is falling down
American Thinker ^ | 2/9/16 | David Lawrence

Tonight I walked onto the subway and saw the car was half-empty because a stinking bum was lying on a seat, and no one wanted to smell him.

Rome fell. New York is falling down. It is filled with illegalities and filth as a result of the good intentions and failed ideas of liberals. Politicians pretend to want the best while they deliver the worst.

De Blasio and New York City Council speaker Melissa Mark-Mark-Vivirito have decriminalized public urination and quality-of-life offenses. Are they kidding? De-civilizing a beautiful city is not a positive. It is a fall from grace.

The Broken Windows theory states that small crimes lead to major crimes. De Blasio and Mark-Vivirito should study sociology. Their ignorance is ruining our city.

They pretend to be kind to the poor while they destroy their lives and leave them scantily clothed with no toilet paper on street corners. They whisper sweet things in bums ears while they throw their lives into sewers.

De Blasio and Mark-Vivirito want to lower the quality of life in New York. They are doing a good job at making New York into a third-world country.

How liberal is New York city? So liberal that after a cop was killed in the line of duty, the city council decided to honor Soviet spy Ethel Rosenberg for her “great bravery”.

Beat that Berkeley California.

She rode the subway daily to her job as a secretary downtown. She looked like Grace Kelly. Of course, men all wore hats.

I grew up in NYC in the '50s. I used to go deep sea fishing out of Sheepshead Bay and take the 4 a.m. subway from Manhattan - for 5c - to catch the early half-day boat. I was usually alone and never in danger - maybe a non-smelly bum sleeping the night away at the most.

About 10-11 a.m. I'd come back with a 50 lb burlap sack filled with mackerel, with juices leaking out of the bottom. There was the usual crowd of Sunday worshippers on the train, heading for church, all decked out to the nines.

Here I come on board REEKING of fish and scruffy as Hell, fish scales on my jacket, etc, (I was 15 then and didn't give a damn.) It was like Moses and the Red Sea - a path magically opened up and I usually had a 10-foot (or more) clear space around me.

[Sidebar] I gave that part up (bringing home a sack full of fish) because when I'd offer free fish to the neighbors, they'd gladly accept - and then recoil. "They're not cleaned? No thanks." I thought "What the Hell, they're getting them for nothing, and now they want me to gut/fillet them as well? Screw 'em.")

Actually, I ride the subways all the time and they are still clean and wonderfully air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter. Bicycles on the subway? I haven’t seen too much of that - it’s generally the double wide baby strollers that take up all of the room and the bulky shopping bags and backpacks. Hardly a third world problem. Still the best bet to get around NYC.

I agree. I hate to be a party-pooper, but I have not seen a significant degradation of the subway system. In my opinion, the homeless are not the problem, but rather the people who eat their breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the subway as if they are at home, without regard to the senses of the other passengers who may not appreciate the smell of the latest third-world cuisine de jour.

The Democrats are going to do for New York what they did for the former richest city in the world, Detroit. Only the ruins will be much taller and even more impressive this time around.

Try riding the subways during the morning commute. Women in skirts and blouses, men in suits or jacket and ties. All upscale restaurants still demand a tie and jacket. Hats went out with JFK. This thread, of course, has degenerated into the usual ignorant NYC hate-athon.

I also think subway etiquette has improved because everyone is on their iphone ignoring other passengers instead of - for good or bad - interacting with each other.

Try reading the real estate section of any newspaper in NYC. The idea that NYC is turning into Detroit is ignorant to the point of stupidity.

And no one had tattoos, unless they were in the Navy or a former Navy enlisted man.

Or an ex-convict! Of all the bad habits that present-day American citizens employ to my mind the tattoos are the worst! They look bad enough on men, but why any woman would want to deface their gorgeous skin like that is beyond me. What is the point!?

Apparently Trump is responsible for that occasional bum on the subway! (Haven’t seen one in years, of course.)

Ever notice that in the Movies the future Utopian Cities are clean, modern and everyone living there are as happy as can be.

Then you watch Blade Runner...

LOL

I had an AK-47 in my trunk, no case, was coming back from target practice at the Avacado field nearby.

Saw a cable guy disconnecting somebodys line when I pulled into the parking lot.

Asked him who he was disconnecting , he told me to mind my own business.

I said OK, then went to the trunk and pulled it out.

He turned white as a ghost.

I told him to have a nice day.
