Italian actor Raphael Schumacher was declared brain dead Friday after accidentally strangling himself on a theater stage during a hanging scene.
Schumacher, 27, was performing in a production at the Pisa’s Teatro Lux on Jan. 30 when a medical student in the audience noticed that the rope around his neck looked to be too tight and Schumacher appeared to be in distress, according to Variety.

If I remember correctly, Michael J. Fox was nearly hung for real in the BTTF III scene where Tannen strings him up.
My question is, what do they do in scenes where a guy has to get shot close up? I mean the blank`s powder plug has real injury potential.
Ever played paintball? Those things HURT LIKE HELL! A friend of mine had his protective padding slip and ended up with a real welt on his arm. I mean a seriously black and blue welt that hurt like the devil! Convinced me to quit the sport. I mean what`s that saying? ‘It`s all funny till someone loses an eye.’, yeah, something like that!

I always felt sorry for Hexum. He was on the cusp of becoming a big star. His acting was improving, better roles were coming his way, and according to those who knew him he remained very down-to-earth. What a pity he died - and in a way that was entirely avoidable. You don't have to point a gun directly at the person being shot. All you have to do is point slightly to one side or the other.
The only time it may be a problem is if the camera is behind the shooter or the shootee.

I watched that show, too. What he did was just so stupid.
