Def Leppard are an English rock band formed in 1977 in Sheffield as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. Since 1992, the band has consisted of Joe Elliott (lead vocals), Rick Savage (bassist, backing vocals), Rick Allen (drums, backing vocals), Phil Collen (guitar, backing vocals), and Vivian Campbell (guitar, backing vocals). This is the band's longest-standing line-up.
The band's strongest commercial success came between the early 1980s and the early 1990s. Their 1981 album High 'n' Dry was produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who helped them begin to define their style, and the album's stand out track "Bringin' On the Heartbreak" became one of the first rock videos played on MTV in 1982. The band's next studio album Pyromania in January 1983, with "Photograph" as the lead single, turned Def Leppard into a household name. In the U.S, Pyromania was certified Diamond (10× Platinum). In 2003, the album ranked number 384 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.[6]
Def Leppard's fourth album Hysteria, released in August 1987, topped the UK and U.S. album charts. As of 2009, it has reached beyond the success of Pyromania, having been certified 12× Platinum for sales of over 12 million in the U.S. and has gone on to sell over 25 million copies worldwide.[7] The album spawned seven hit singles, including the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number one "Love Bites", alongside "Pour Some Sugar on Me", "Hysteria", "Armageddon It", "Animal", "Rocket", and "Women". Their next studio album Adrenalize (the first following the death of guitarist Steve Clark) reached number one in the UK and U.S. charts in 1992, and contained several hits including, "Let's Get Rocked" and "Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad". Their 1993 album Retro Active contained the acoustic hit song "Two Steps Behind", while their greatest hits album Vault, released in 1995, featured the UK hit "When Love & Hate Collide".
As one of the world's best-selling music artists, Def Leppard have sold more than 100 million records worldwide,[8] and have two albums with RIAA Diamond certification, Pyromania and Hysteria.[9] They are one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling over 10 million copies in the U.S.[10][11] The band were ranked No. 31 in VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock"[12] and ranked No. 70 in "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".[13]

Best of Def Leppard (or The Best Of) is a compilation of some of Def Leppard's most popular songs. The album charted at No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart.[1]
Best Of supplements 1995's Vault as the definitive collection of Def Leppard's work. In fact, Best of Disc 1 is essentially Vault with the addition of "Long Long Way To Go.
A 2-CD limited edition was released in a slipcase with more obscure fan-favourite album cuts on the second disc, including tracks from more recent albums. In the UK, a cover of The Kinks' "Waterloo Sunset" was included as a bonus. This foreshadowed the band's forthcoming '70s cover album Yeah!
Best Of was released in a number of territories around the world, but not North America. A 2-CD best of called Rock of Ages was issued there instead.
The single-CD edition of the album features material from 1981's High 'n' Dry through to 2002's X. Track distribution focuses largely on the band's late '80s/early '90s hits, with a single song from High 'n' Dry, two from Pyromania (1983), six from Hysteria (1987), four from Adrenalize (1992), two from Retro Active (1993), and a single song from X. "When Love & Hate Collide", the sole new song from 1995's greatest hits set Vault was also included. The 2-CD version gives a more even cross-section of the band's career, starting with two songs from On Through the Night (1980), four from High 'n' Dry, seven from Pyromania, seven from Hysteria, five from Adrenalize, two from Retro Active, "When Love & Hate Collide" the new song on Vault, two from Slang (1996), one from Euphoria (1999), two from X (2002) and one new song, the cover of "Waterloo Sunset" which was to be included in the band's forthcoming cover album Yeah! (2006).

Led Zeppelin wannabe’s
For me, interest in that band stops at their second album.
Thanks to Mutt Lange for giving us some fantastic Def Leppard albums and three classic AC/DC albums but he also gave us Shania Twain and her execrable pop country.
Oh well..he got his leg over.
Yeah but for eighties hair bands, which came a dime a dozen and mostly sucked, they stood out, creatively speaking.
One of my all time favorite bands, and yet I've never heard of any of these songs. Unfortunately, I did hear "Pour Some Sugar on Me" -- every time I couldn't make it to the off switch in time.
I hear ya, my knucklehead friends always turned that song up, and I couldn’t stand it. I always liked the High and Dry album. The reprise after “Bringin on the Heartache” was really a cool piece of guitar instrumental. I saw them in 2005 in San Diego, great show.
In 1988 I took my 11-year-old daughter to see a band I really liked. Def Leppard. I created a monster. She has seen them about 5 or 6 times since, had pictures taken with them backstage, won contests for tickets, and now sings some of their songs with her own band. One thing I will say about their music is, at least they are musical. It’s not just yelling and “rap” style lyrics.
Bringin' on the Heartbreak may be my favorite song of theirs. However the song Photograph, IMO, is the best pop/metal 80s hairband song out there (whatever that means). I don't know if anyone currently 45-55 couldn't keep from air guitaring that opening riff, as soon as they hear it.
Not that it isn’t great being Pappy Smear, and I’m not someone to wish my life away, but I would love to be Joe Elliott for a day in 1983.
Led Zep is quite possibly the most over rated band ever. Ever.

Pyromania was the last album that Pete Willis played on and wrote songs for. That’s why it sounds sort of like a hybrid of the original stuff plus what came after.
I don’t want to knock Rick Allen post-accident, but he did have a distinct style that he didn’t seem to have recovered.
Phil Collen probably brought the glam stuff in more than any of the prior members, having played for a band called “Girl” before joining (singer was Phil Lewis of L.A. Guns).

My sister and her hubby were just on the “Hysteria at Sea” Cruise in the Caribbean.
It was not very good: the warmup act got sick, Def Leppard’s lead singer got sick, it was a bit of a let down.
Kinda sad, as she was all torqued up about it.
