Has he been ill? I’ve noticed a lack of his photos recently. While walking my dog this morning I could hear a bald eagle calling but never saw it - did see a huge pileated woodpecker digging into a healthy red cedar.

Thanks for the thread I7, beautiful pics. Looks like they may have to look for a new nest before long if you get a real blow.

Thanks for the ping, Fly. Not only big numbers but lots of species. Sounds like you’re busy most of the time now, you ever get any time off? :-)

Pretty slim pickins these days in my area, Puget Trough Drainage Area - Georgia Strait, from Campbell River south to Tacoma. Chilly, rainy, stormy weather, usually above freezing through the night. Occasional bald eagles thinking about spring. The odd robin ditto. Mainly birds visiting 2 feeders on a outdoor picnic table under a translucent roof - Stellers Jays, Varied Thrushes, Song Sparrows, occasional Fox Sparrow, Pine Siskins, Juncos, Towhees, Winter Wrens - gets pretty hectic at times. And the table will need a bit of work before eating at it when the weather warms up.

osprey nest I've been keeping an eye on.

I live in S.E. Mich and the DNR has been trying to reintroduce Osprey here and from what I understand, they now have a several nesting couples at a local park called Stoney Creek.

Anyway, I play softball several mornings a week at a park maybe 10 miles away from that lake. On one morning, I was playing on a diamond next to a small pond when I observed an osprey flying around and sure enough, he started fishing that pond by making about 4 dives before he finally flew off..........

That was really cool to watch......

I also have a couple photos of a juvenile Coopers hawk that I caught perching on my back deck railing after trying to catch birds from my bird feeder. I've got to figure out how to get them on my home page........

We are huge bird watchers right here I the middle of Houston, near Buffalo Bayou. Right now we are covered up with Gold Finches. Love those little guys. We have an amazing number of varieties of birds here in our back yard!

Magnificent photos. Better than Birds And Bloom. We once had a dying pine topped and not cut down at the same price to the dismay of our tree guy because woodpeckers lived there. They used to complain loudly every morning when we made noise leaving for work.

OK....I’ll start a birding ping list. Couple of caveats, I work, a lot. So, I can’t promise a regular, i.e., weekly thread. I’m not a bird expert; just a guy hooked on photography with a love for all God’s creatures. So questions about identify, etc. will need to addressed by others. (Hint flycatcher)

Having said that, ping me to be added to the list.

Lived in CT for many years, then southern Ohio, in both areas we lived on wooded properties. In Ohio we were within a half mile of a large nature preserve. Pileated woodpeckers were in evidence in both CT and southern Ohio.
Cardinals were in evidence as well ... we now live in western CO and cardinals are not part of the birdscape. They have been observed in western Nebraska near McCook but haven't made it to the front range of the Rockies. Miss my cardinals.
