Schlafly unloads on Rubio: 'He betrayed us all'

In 2009, Marco Rubio was a plucky challenger for the open Senate in Florida, taking on incumbent Republican Gov. Charlie Crist. Though Rubio was trailing in the polls, one leading conservative activist thought that he had real potential and vowed to help him.

“When Marco Rubio ran for the Senate in Florida, I think I was the first one to endorse him,” said Phyllis Schlafly. “I made a trip down to Florida in 2009 just for the purpose of helping him.”

But Schlafly, a legendary conservative activist, author, and WND columnist, now says she is bitterly disappointed by Rubio’s record once he got what he wanted.

“Once he got elected, he betrayed us all,” she told WND. “He said he was against amnesty and against the establishment. And once he got in, right away, he became an agent of the establishment. And now of course he’s big for amnesty and letting all the illegal immigrants in. He betrayed us a number of times on that issue.”

Schlafly said she was startled at the magnitude of Rubio’s “betrayal” on amnesty.

“It was so public,” she said.

Correct, he has not. Yet. But he has made some very telling statements that one doesn’t have to read too deeply between the lines to understand what he’s getting at.

Not knowing for sure if you are an operative or merely someone who has been taken in, I’m not going to go any further than to say that you are misguided.

Trump’s favorite SCOTUS judges are Thomas, Alito, & Scalia. That should give us an idea of the kind of judges he would nominate.

We can thank Ted Cruz for pushing Roberts at the time he was nominated. Their friendship goes back to when they both clerked for William Rehnquist.
So much for that.

Interesting reply. Cruz, as most, has done good things. But he and Rubio are globalists and unlikeTrump will sell the American middle clas out. Trump more a populist.

lame excuses for a lifetime of Dem donations and advocacy.

Trump is a businessman. He was looking out for NY state and NYC, which is represented by Dems. What was he supposed to do?

what exactly made trump realize he was now against a lifetime of liberalism...mystery that!!!

Have you seen Trump’s videos from the 80s where he was proficient in seeing the decline of the U.S. from bad trade deals and open borders? His past liberalism is not germane to what’s going on and what he wants to do to solve it.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Trump advocated for amnesty.

Trump being a businessman is no excuse for his donations or leftwing advocacy.

Trump wants voters to say F you to businesses who left America and let us down well trump let us down with his donations to leftist and leftist advocacy so a big F you to trump for that.

Trump was a billionaire and continued to donate to leftists. No excuses for that. None

Every great movement starts as a crusade, becomes a business, and ends as a scam.

...Very good point.

Actually I have been thinking about breaking this mold in the conservative blog arena.

I am planning to start a blogazine for "citizen commentators" like myself.   My theory is that if a conservative gets elected in November, a lot of commentators on the GOPe and liberal side of the house will have lost an audience.   And fresh voices will be needed to fill the gap and help keep the conservative revolution move forward.

But more than that, I find I personally enjoy this kind of writing.

Here's the skeleton of my plan.  Curious to hear people's comments:

  • I'm an independent full time editor and industry analyst in the IT world today, but I would like to establish a part-time biz commentating on conservative and life/culture issues.   Hope to imitate in some modest way my hero H.L. Mencken (if anyone really can mimic that genius).

  • My idea is post my own stories, but also reach out selectively to people on FR and elsewhere to contribute and in that case I would be their editor.

  • My thought is to accept no political advertising or Google click-bait (which I hate), but make this a business venture by advertising my own paid writing services to businesses.  This is what I do in the tech industry today, so I figure I can attract business people to hire me for writing gigs and full-blown marketing communications.

  • For the time being I plan to use a pseudo name on this blogazine and the other writers can either do that or be out in the open.

  • My plan would be to exclude political hit pieces.  That's covered very well on FR and the wider media.  My thought is to focus on more scholarly discussions of conservative issues -- and even re-publishing or interpreting the great conservative thinkers of which there are many.   It would be cool to interview people too.   Summarizing and interpreting the thoughts of those who have come before us is not really done very much.

  • Maybe I could post some of the articles on Free Republic first and then republish on my own website later on, though I'm not sure if FR approves of doing this or not.  I've noticed that the few stories I have posted on FR tend to get picked up on Google which shows how excellent FR's reach is. .

So these are my thoughts.  Interested to hear any devil's advocate advice etc.  Maybe someone has done something similar?

Thanks.

Interesting, KGeorge.   I wonder if you happen to know how the SCOTUS clerk system works.   For instance, how many clerks would a Rehnquist have at one time?  And what is the job of a clerk?

Much obliged if you know.  Thanks.

I think it’s too late for all of us. And there doesn’t seem to be enough politicians that want to turn it around. Most of them want it to continue.

SCHLAFLY TO RUBIO: WHO ARE YOU?

The Voters certainly looked fast asleep, almost dead and dark, with scarcely a snore more than a whiff of unseen steam, when Rubio peeped once more from the entrance. He was just about to step out on to the floor when he caught a sudden thin and piercing ray of red from under the dropping lid of The Voters's left eye. He was only pretending to sleep! He was watching the tunnel entrance! Hurriedly Rubio stepped back and blessed the luck of his ring. Then The Voters spoke.

`Well, thief! I smell you and I feel your air. I hear your breath. Come along! Help yourself again, there is plenty and to spare!`

But Rubio was not quite so unlearned in campaigning - lore as all that, and if The Voters hoped to get him to come nearer so easily he was disappointed. `No thank you, 0 Voters Tremendous!` he replied. I did not come for presents. I only wished to have a look at you and see if you were truly as great as tales say. I did not believe them.`

`Do you now?` said the voters somewhat flattered, even though he did not believe a word of it.

`Truly songs and tales fall utterly short of the reality, 0 The Chiefest and Greatest of Calamities,` replied Rubio.

`You have nice manners for a thief and a liar,` said the voters. `You seem familiar with my name, but I don't seem to remember smelling you before. Who are you and where do you come from, may I ask?`

`You may indeed! I come from under the hill, and under the hills and over the hills my paths led. And through the air. I am he that walks unseen.` So I can well believe,` said The Voters, `but that is hardly your usual name.

`I am the friend of Santorum and the guest of Fries. I am Endorse winner and Bootwearer; and I am Boat driver,` went on Rubio beginning to be pleased with his riddling. `That's better!` said The Voters. `But don't let your imagination run away with you!`

Not in detail. The Chief Justice may have up to 5, but it appears that Rehnquist had only 3. I read the article that referenced this in the past 2 days, but can’t begin to tell you where. It was either linked here, the Conservative Treehouse, or in the comments. Cruz was only his clerk for about a year- in 1996. I believe Roberts was later.

What does the job description have to do with it?

“I shudder to think of the judges a President Trump would nominate.”

More imagination! On the other hand we KNOW what judges Cruz would appoint...sell out twerps like his good friend JOHN ROBERTS, who stuck us with Obamacare. Worrying about NOTHING instead of real history is pretty silly.

So...that’s the answer. It matters not how he votes (98% doesn’t a RINO make), it only matters if he wants to expel illegals. Well - no matter who is elected, 11 million illegals aren’t going to be kicked out.

Best we elect a person with no conservative record - or better yet - elect Clinton or Sanders. Is that your position?

“what exactly made trump realize....”

I’m fairly certain that anything I write will fall on deaf ears, but take your pick; if Trump is as selfish as some would have us believe, or if his reasons are altruistic, and he genuinely loves this country, and cares about what sort of world his grandchildren will be growing up in (as I believe), it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see, that the current path our nation is being led down, is one of destruction and ruin. Either reason, selfish or altruistic, Trump want to avoid the path of destruction and genuinely wants to Make America Great Again.

If we elect anyone who gives the Democrats a permanent majortity none of the other issues matter.

Thanks!   That's what I was curious to know.

I found a good Reuters article that explains what the 36 supreme court clerks do:
