It's no surprise that all 44 presidents were born on U.S. soil: The requirement for a president to be a "natural born citizen" is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. The current debate about what that means stems from the fact that there's no document trail to reveal what, exactly, the Constitution writers meant by that statement.
Whatever your opinion may be, it is true that all of the presidents to date have been born in one of the 50 U.S. states. Live Science took a look at where the presidents were born. While the tally may have a lot to do with chance, the overall trends do reflect changes in the population, politics and attitudes of Americans over the years. What about a future In Vitro candidate? That could raise all kinds of questions. Donor mother? Birth mother? donor father? etc, etc, etc.
If you don't like the Constitution, get it amended.
The first eight of nine presidents were born under British Rule, foreign influence. It was until after 1845 or so we started to have President born in United States.
The Constitution specifically provided for that: "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President;
“In Cruz’s case his mother did meet the requirements outlined by law - U.S. citizen physically present in the U.S. for at least five years prior to birth, two of which were after she was fourteen - and therefore Cruz is a natural-born citizen.”
Wrong, because that is an impossibility. You are trying to cite a naturalization law as the justification for th acquisition of U.S. citizenship by Ted Cruz, and then you contradict yourself by falsely claiming Ted Cruz is a natural born citizen. Ted Cruz cannot be a naturalized U.S. citizen by his mother and a natural born citizen. If Ted Cruz were a natural born citizen, he could not be made into a naturalized citizen in order to qualify for U.S. citizenship. That’s pure irrational and crazy talk. Ted Cruz acquired U.S. citizenship at birth under the authority of the previously quoted U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952. That fact automatically disqualifies Ted Cruz from having any physical means whatsoever to qualify as a natural born citizen of the United States.
Though I disagree with him on that issue, he did also add until legislative amnesty is enacted...
Which I also think could be a very bad or good idea...depends on who is House Leader and Senate majority leader...after the election...
The question I am bouncing around in my brain is what happens if he rescinds Obama illegal immigration EO on his first day...
Do we get a mad rush by the 100's of thousands or do we wait until Congress enacts immigration reform and be prepared for the border rush...?
You know Obama would give the border control agents two weeks free vacation the day before he leaves office to clear the path...
At any rate, I was replying to a post that implied being born-abroad on a US military base was the same as being born on US soil. The Thomas case speaks directly to that contention.
Or a Saudi Prince who buys himself a US wife.
Not that I like McCain, but I have to argue that point.
McCain is the son of an Admiral who at the time of the Senator’s birth was stationed in the Canal Zone....which was a territory of the US. In addition, McCain was born on the US military base...sovereign US soil. Births to military members stationed overseas ARE considered national born.
Just think, if Rubio (born on US soil to non-US citizens) is a NBC, doesn’t that open up some horrible possibilities?
If Kim Jung Un or the head of ISIS were able to smuggle pregnant women across the Mexican border and they gave birth in El Paso, in 35 years those North Korean Communists or Middle Eastern jihadists could be eligible to be President (not that you could really tell the difference with what we’ve got in the White House now).
I’m having a tough time thinking our founders, who did such a great job with the Constitution, would have allowed such a security hole that would allow Presidential eligibility to be hacked so easily. In my view the more restrictive view of NBC (on US soil to US citizen parents) seems like the right read of the text, but what the heck do I know. It would be nice to get this argument properly settled through the court system.
It is an established maxim that birth is a criterion of allegiance. Birth however derives its force sometimes from place and sometimes from parentage, but in general place is the most certain criterion; it is what applies in the United States; it will therefore be unnecessary to investigate any other.

Why is this mentioned? Well, Sir Winston Churchill’s Mother was 100% American. Yet, he was born in the UK. Sound familiar.. And yet, the US Gov’t and Pres. JF Kennedy decided it would be a GREAT Honor to grant “Honorary” citizenship to him....... Get that, HONORARY! However, I’ll top this Cruz and offer Bibi Netanyahu.
Cheltenham High School, In Pa. Abington Township , Pa. Bibi grew up in the US. So, others can play the NBC game too is all I suggest!

It would be whomever the mother or father was listed on the birth certificate.
dead-enders? Man, I’m flying 6,000 miles to Hawaii just to have some fun in a couple weeks. I drive a round in a corvette and a new 4wd silverado and I own 3 houses. I have two honorable discharges from the military, a college degree, and I pulled in 80 large last year. I don’t feel like a dead ender.
But he was not naturalized. He was born a citizen. He did not achieve it through some naturalization process, taking an oath, and all the rest.
