In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
BRABBLE [BRAB ul]
noun
Brabble is loud, acrimonious wrangling. To brabble is to engage in quarrelsome arguments, usually stubborn ones, about trifles.
We get this word from the Dutch very brabbelen (to wrangle).
In Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus (Act II, Scene 1), the Moot Aaron, beloved of the evil Tamora, Queen of the Goths, comes upon her sons Demetrius and Chiron, both smitten with Lavinia, Titus' daughter, wrangling and threatening each other. Aaron exclaims:
Away, I say!
This petty brabble will undo us all...
For shame, be friends....
And in King John (Act V, Scene 2), Dauphin, after listening to the Bastard's long plea for peace, says:
We grant thou canst outscold us. Fare thee well:
We hold our time too precious to be spent
With such a brabbler....
An early Ukranian democracy fist fight.
I see Trey Gowdy!
The artist/architect presumably believed heaven is somewhere below the clouds.
Not a good thing to have on the brain!
By the way, I found out that socialist Bernie Sanders is a warmonger who supported the NATO bombing of Serbia-in 1999—among other things.
As a socialist/communist who foments war and violence, he qualifies as a Bolshevik!!!! That’s why I called him “Bolshevik Bernie”, and will continue to do so.
Heh! Good thread.
All the brabble in congress
Will not accomplish a thing
With Ryan as house speaker-
He’s a bee without a sting
Before he got the position
He talked a very good line
Now he says if we are nice
Everything will be just fine
Either he is just delusional
Drinking psychotropic koolaid
Or he knows he will be toast
In a few months and is afraid...
My old Husky girl died in her sleep this morning-I took her out last night at 11, just like always, then she went to sleep on her bed-at about 5, I was not hearing her little snore and knew she had gone. I wrapped her up in a favorite rug and laid her in her place under that oak tree-my electrician friend dug a grave big enough for a calf, but I’m just about finished filling it in.
I’m going to miss that dog for a long time...
Oh, that’s sad. It’s rough losing a dog. I am so sorry.
They even make sympathy cards for it. We got several after Missy passed.
I’m dedicated to helping my dogs and cats live long, spoiled and happy, but all those years make it so tough when they are gone.
We got Buffy less than a year after losing Missy. Sorry we waited so long, though.
I’m not at all sure that I want another dog-certainly not until I’m settled in my own nest and have the money to buy another puppy from a reputable AKC recommended kennel-that is a big expense.
