Vanessa Hudgens performed on “Grease: Live!” Sunday, hours after announcing that her father, Greg Hudgens, had lost his battle with cancer.

She appeared alongside Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit, Keke Palmer and Carly Rae Jepsen on the Fox special.

This is what's called "a trouper." And she was excellent in the part.

Sympathies to her and her family. Good job.

A few years ago (2007), they revived Grease on Broadway. They had an "American Idol"-style competition to cast Danny and Sandy. The girl who won Sandy was Laura Osnes, and she was terrific. She's had a good Broadway career since.

Grease Live! was good, and I like the trend towards musicals on TV.

Is she too young for “rules?”

The only tv movie musicals I like are Grease and the Sound of Music.
Ok just remembered a few more but can’t recall the titles, lol.

I fear watching remakes will have horrible additional scenes and won’t measure up...

Well, NBC in 2014 BADLY messed up Peter Pan, but their 2013 Sound of Music Live (with Carrie Underwood) and the December 2015 Wiz LIve were pretty good. And they got a good audience.

I give her a lot of credit for doing it. She is a true professional. Probably good to get it off her mind for a few hours. I am sure the funeral will be mid-week so it wasn’t like she could do much on a Sunday. I know my brother and sister went to work the next day after our Mom died but took time off after the funeral.......sometime that works.....depending on the person.

So did they make the Sandy character an Australian, like in the movie?

No, Salt Lake City. Julianne Hough was absolutely great in her role as ‘Sandy’. For that matter, all the leads were very good. And one of the original T-Birds and Pink Ladies were in the play.

From the pics, she looked like the perfect girl for the role.

Yep, when both my parents passed away, I went into work, I was out of town, and frankly, on those days I felt like going into work would be more therapeutic, instead of sitting around at home.

My granddaughter was at our house last night and wanted to watch it, so I ceded control of the remote. Very pleasantly surprised; most of the cast was terrific (with the exception of Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit) and director Thomas Kail (creator of “Hamilton” on Broadway)deserves credit for very innovative—and impressive— staging of the production.

But the unsung hero was a gentleman named Alex Rudzinski, the director who was actually calling the shots in the control room. Directing a large-scale, live event like a sporting event, political convention, awards show or a televised musical is one of the hardest jobs in television, and it’s event tougher when the cast and crew are shuttling between multiple stages. Rudzinski did an outstanding job; even the best staging and performances mean little if the camera isn’t in the right place at the right time.

The irony, of course, is that television was built on live productions in the era before videotape. A number of talented film directors (including John Frankenheimer and Robert Altman) cut their teeth in live TV. If you watch some of the episodes of GE Theater and Playhouse 90, it’s remarkable what they accomplished with technology that was crude by today’s standards.

Julianne Hough, FWIW, had the personal endorsement of Olivia Newton-John.

But Julianne Hough is primarily a dancer. Singing and acting aren’t her forte. I thought she had a nice singing voice, but not a strong one.

Wow, definitely a trouper.

I enjoyed the show. I think the whole cast did great except for the “Beauty School Drop Out” number that was rough.

Like someone else mentioned, it was great to see some old cast from the movie.

I enjoyed the additional USO number, which is in the play but not the movie.
