On Thursday's broadcast of ESPN Radio's "The Right Time," host Bomani Jones responded to the criticism of Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
Jones referred to Newton as a "blackety-black" quarterback that you can better picture in your mind than Seattle's Russell Wilson or San Francisco's Colin Kaepernick, which he said plays into why Newton receives criticism for his on-field celebrations.
He also added that there is a "historical lineage that indicates a lot has been done to keep black people from playing quarterback," despite the fact that five black quarterbacks are currently starting in the NFL and around 10 more are serving as backups.

This whole story makes no sense. Some jackass who happens to be the SIXTH starting quarterback in Super Bowl history — and fourth in the last four years — actually thinks people give a sh!t about his race? WTF?

A lot more black quarterbacks than white running backs.

I recommend that in addition to the Super Bowl Trophy, Cam be given a special Academy Award which will make everyone feel better.

Seriously, the guy is a complete jackass. The NFL long ago should have brought this celebration crap under control. It's getting to be like watching the WWE/WWF, which I turn off for a reason.
His behavior isn't singularly unprofessional. But it is unprofessional all the same. And it isn't unprofessional because he's blackety-black or anything else.

What’s interesting is that nobody is talking about race except for him, and black liberals in the sports media. I mean, I watched the Panthers play and they are a good team. But Newton is going to get serious backlash if he keeps this crap up.
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
The media is really pushing the ‘story’ that Cam is hated because of his race.

The story line is that Cam is simply having fun.
Well, why wouldn't he have fun if he is winning?
It is when they start losing that we will see what he is made of.

Blacks certainly have their "privilege". Good thing his last name wasn't Limbaugh........

If your name is Bomani, you already have enough issues than to get into other people’s $hit.

Newton has an exuberant manner that he doesn’t control. I’ve seen several games and it doesn’t bother me. He has the talent to back it up. My only question is whether or not Denver’s defense can put a cap on it. I rather doubt they can.

How did I know that this was going to be one of those articles that explains to me that the only reason I dislike Cam Newton is because I’m racist?

I see that the ESPN talking heads are taking management's ixnay on political talk to heart.

I can't see any problem with Cam Newton's celebrations - he's an athlete in an adrenaline-fueled sport celebrating when he scores. He's not spiking footballs in his opponents faces, and he goes out of his way to give the footballs he scores with to kids in the end-zone. The NFL doesn't need to be the No Fun League - let these guys enjoy themselves.

nobody dare criticize the black qb...nobody...at least we can't talk openly about it...
sure, his college cheated and he got paid to play...sure he's a jerk....sure he's arrogant...sure he acts like a chimp after scoring...
but I won't say that...no not me...
